I agree that people's tolerences of drinking and driving are much different. Some people can have a good buzz and drive just as well as anyone else. I have known some people that have 2-3 drinks and they are sloppy drunks. But then there are people who can have 15 drinks and still act somewhat normal and handle themselves without acting drunk. I agree that if you can not drive a car safely you shouldnt be on the road. I find it ironic that many government officials including judges, police officers, etc get caught driving drunk. Its a fact of life wether you like it or not. People go out. People get drunk. People drive home. I just hope the people that drive home drunk arent the kind of people who get "sloppy" when drinking. I am not one of those sloppy drunk people. I have never recieved a DUI but I know a few people that have had 2-3 DUI's. Those people with the multiple DUI's should not be driving!

I have been drinking since I was 17. I have never been in an alcohol related accident. I have never received a DUI. Thats 14 years of driving safely! If everyone was like me you wouldnt have a job.

It only takes one accident.

I heard the saying that "Accidents happen closest to home". In many cases thats too true. And just because a "third" of people do it does not mean you have to follow that crowd.

I'm sure your a terrific guy otherwise I just don't to see anyone get hurt on something that can be prevented.

Well...theres always your friends... And those who get alcohol poisoning in bars...or the primary part of my job (although it occupies the least amount of time): Firefighting.

Naughty for drinking so long...Naughty... Stuffs bad for you- not just the alcohol, but the beerbelly result, and the toxicity to your innards... I am way too much of a health nut to ever be a drinker...

Aside from that-- When you are drunk, you are impaired. You will not realize your bad driving. You are a threat.

As for finding a better way-- back when they could just decide that you were impaired, people werent sueing for stupid reasons. Now, they would probably say that they were dizzy, or being harassed. They needed a testable, proveable method that is a standard. I see both sides of the coin. Personally, I think ANY alcohol in the system should mean no driving. But on the other hand, I know people that put back more than the legal limit by far, and still seem to drive OK. But being in my industry, I see way too many people die over not wanting to call a friend, a cab, etc. In fact, several of my friends died because they were too scared to call their parents, a cab, or friends. They routinely drank, then drove, and did fine, but one night, everything was different. That was NOT a fun call over the radio. (I didnt even go to that one, but I was definately there at the CISD).

Then theres pedestrians. I know several people who have been struck by a vehicle, and died. Drivers: In all cases, the drivers were drunk, and didnt react fast enough.

Stew over that. Think about how you would feel if you were the one that hit somebodys son or daughter. How can you possibly say in cold blood that you will continue to be DUI?

BTW-- 2 weeks ago-- My FD worked a case where a guy who was DUI hit a 5 year old on a tricycle. Now-- go tell her daddy that you drive drunk, and dont care, that you will continue to do it, and that you are too asinine to care about the health and safety of anybody excet yourself, who you dont even care for.

If you dont care to save yourself, fine. But for the sake of the innocent ones, have some common sense.

I do go through some periods where I drink less. I have been through some health kicks. Back when I was about 22 I was in damn good shape. Especially after playing football through highschool and college. I do not drink every day. I usually only get drunk once or twice a week. I drink Jim Beam and diet coke to minimize the calories. Whats ironic is that when I was in college I was in the best shape of my life and thats the time I used to drink the most! My "gut" is mostly a result of eating large quantities of food and sitting at a desk all day...... not from alcohol....LOL Since I moved to Dallas last November I havent been to a gym yet. I really need to start again. A few years ago I was able to bench double my weight. And I weighed around 235lbs. I bet I couldnt even do 300 anymore.

If you truly think that it's ok to toss a few back and then drive...
