I believe the first ones, the 1964s, with the 289 were aluminum(the very first one Shelby built was a 260). They were from the defunct AC shop in England, but by the time the 1967 427 Cobras were produced, I believe they were fiberglass. The one in the video is a 1967 replica. Still stupid.

When a real one wrecks, it is tragic. I saw the vintage crash at Road America 2 years ago. Several vettes (no loss), several Camaros (bigger loss), a couple Mustangs (much bigger loss, one was a Boss 302), and one original 427 Cobra... MAJOR FREAKING LOSS!!! There's lots of Vettes, not nearly so many Cobras. That's why the value of any original Cobra is many times the value of even special model Vettes.
I noticed that, that's why I asked if the originals were fiberglass. Kits are a lot less expensive and a lot easier to come by but it's still a horrible way to die

vettes may notbe as rare depending on the model/year but thats still pretty dumb to say theres no loss to see several old vettes get wrecked

I'll have to research, I am pretty sure that they were all hand formed aluminum - all came from AC and I don't believe they had any fiberglass equipment.

The real Cobras from the 60's are aluminum. CSX produced cars in the 90's. They may have made some aluminum ones, but they mostly produced fiberglass ones.

That was fiberglass car. If it were a typical kit car (Superformace, Factory Five...), I'd say it's worth $40,000-$60,000. The newer CSX (Shelby) are quite a bit more.

It was a stupid accident, and she was in way over her head, but I wonder how many here have been around a truely high performance car. That car probably weighs about 2800lb with at least 400 hp. Things happen quickly in a light, high power, short wheel base car especially if the roads were wet.

Thanks Bent, that's what I was pretty sure of. I think that's a Superformance kit, looks like their roof... another dead give away that it's not original.

I used to have a street car that was 1,800# and over 400 hp... it definitely doesn't take much ffor them to get a mind of their own - definitely I would let anyone else drive... too easy to get in trouble REALLY fast!
