Army National Guard
Army National Guard
Well I know I have asked about military information from y'all before, but the options have changed a little bit. I'm just shy of the age limit for being able to enter into OCS for the Army National Guard and I was wondering if any of you had any experience in this area? I'm already a LEO, but wanted a little more adventure and thought this would be a good way of accomplishing such a goal (that and the fact that I would love to not only continue to serve my state, but the country as well). Do any of y'all have experience with the National Guard or relatives/best friends that have experience? I obviously get a lot of insight from some of the guys I work with, but figured complete strangers would give me the best, unbiased opinion. Any info/insight would be appreciated.
Well, I can tell you this: Every guard unit and state is completely different. You can pretty much predict that no one's advice from another unit or state is going to pertain very much to where you may be going.
I've been in a couple of different units, and worked with a lot more. I experienced everything from total lazy slobs, to professional soldiers above any active duty troop I've ever met. Usually the entire unit is either worthless, ***** hot, or somewhere in between. I guess the command climate has a lot to do with it.
They are waivering a lot for OCS right now, I think up to 36 with prior service, and maybe 32 without? But, they change the waivered age all the time.
Your best bet is to actually go to the unit you may join, and spend a drill weekend with them. Talk to the guys who do the job you plan on doing, and find out the real skinny, then talk to Recruiting and Retention to find out the details on joining/ going to OCS, etc.
