4.6 v 5.4 driving experience?

I was a proud owner of a 2001 Screw with the 5.4 that recently burned itself to the ground...
I'am now forced into purchasing another F150 and wonder how the 4.6 compares to the 5.4. I realise the horsepower/torque difference but how does it "feel" to drive?
It just seems that there are more 4.6 available than 5.4's

Looking for impressions..
Thanks

A lot depends on the body style and what you epect it to do. I bought my Supercrew new with the 5.4. and had to take it in for some service. They loaned me a truck just like mine except it had the 4.6. No way I could have put up with the lack of power. Could hardly wait till my truck was ready.

I have a shortbed standard cab 2wd (4,000 lb truck) with the 4.6. Mine is a low mile 1998 around 220 HP. It is fine for tooling around and has good passing power, however, if it had a little more torque it would be perfect. (My next truck will be a 5.4)

I think you should spend more time looking and try for the 5.4 again if possible.

I drove a 4.6 powered F150 and it drove fine. I was never really at a loss for power. I expect that when it comes to pulling and hauling things would change. Hey even my friends 4.2 V6 felt peppy but it was a 5 speed.

What I'd like to know is standard 5.4 vs Lightning.

Next I want an '03 flareside and most available are going to be Lightnings.

It's the same engine design with similar torque curves, so the power feels the same, just elss of it. In F-150's depending on how you drive, there can be no difference in fuel economy between the two.

There is no reason to get a 4.6L except for limited selection.

Have you driven the Lightning?

You notice much difference in the lower RPM band? Is it worth the horrific gas mileage?
