Need to Vent on book prices

I know alot of us on here have gone or are going to college right now. It's rediculous what they charge for books. The cheapest book on my list USED was $84 There just BOOKS. Some of my classes I hardly even use them in too. It's called the INTERNET!! You can go out and buy the most popular book right now and pay around $20, which is 4 times as long as the books I have to buy!! How on earth do they expect me to mod my truck with these prices

Thank You for reading an angry college student's rant on book prices.

My favorite was when you HAD to buy a book for a class, and then the professor changed her mind, and decided to use a different book, and since they are no longer using the first book the bookstore won't buy it back... and you still have to buy the new book... ****!

When I went to price them today I brought back at least 5 books and they said that they don't use these anymore so they're basicly useless. I JUST BOUGHT MOST OF THEM OVER THE SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you getting your books through Amazon? If not, forget the ripoff campus bookstore and do it the Amazon way. I was always able to save a few Benjamins, especially when it comes to brand new books. I thought I was smart when I went to pre-enroll my freshman year and had all my books ordered ahead of time and ready for me to pick up at the bookstore in August. $450 later, I found the cheaper alternative...Amazon.

You should also be able to sell your "useless" books on there too. Surely someone across the nation is looking for what you have.

FWIW there are tons of book sellers, traders, etc on the net. Just google college text books. I never bought a book until I spoke with the instructor to determine if they were necessary. The majority of the time the professor would say that books weren't essential and that I could get by just on their notes. This was especially true of the professors that have been teaching for several years.

Just consider this as another reason to get your education done as quickly as possible. Pick a path and stick with it. Don't change majors in your senior year or take a couple years off to find yourself. Just take your lumps like the rest of us and in a short time you will be making a decent living and the few hundred that you got scammed for, won't really matter too much.

I bought a book for a word processing class or something, it was like a $90 book, then after I was done with the class I tried taking it back to the book store to resell; those bastards would only give me $20 for it. Not that it mattered, since conveniently they stopped using that specific book in future classes.

It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

i think books for classes are the biggest scam in college right now. they have a new book for the same freaking class every semester. and the only changes are the cover and the order of the chapters and maybe a couple of pictures inside.
