I have a DPS friend who carries a 10 millimeter (yes, TEN). Great penetration, great knockdown. So if you are looking for stopping power (and dont mind the cost of the weapon and rare ammo), get one of these and some Black Talons. Great weapon (I wanna say it is Colt or S&W or something...)
Or, go for the Colt 1911 .45......Proven good many times...Great weapons...

well i just got back from the gun shop and i decided on gettin the glock but now i cant decide between the Full or Compact 40cal...i held the compact and my pinky finger hangs off the end of the gun and the full fits my hand better but i like the compact alot more and i already have a Beretta 92 fullsize and thats why im leaning towards the compact...should i go with the fullsize that fits my hand better or not...?but they are both comfortable...and im going to use it as home defense and take it on roadtrips when i go alone and im going to get a concealed handgun license...

I keep an S&W 22A, .22 in the truck. As I said in another thread I shoot it 100 rnds of it to 10 rounds of anything else. I "practice" rapid fire with it at 50 yards. I can barely hit a basketball with anything else once much less rapid fire at 25 yards just because I cant afford to buy enough rounds to get as good with anything else.
All I need is an adams apple or other soft susppetable tissue "like an eye or slightly open mouth", (If the ywont open thier mouth for me to stick on in the back of thier throat... I'll pop ithem one their forehead and the automatic response is an open mouth.... hehe) at 50 yards or less I can take it out from the hip with the 22A.

I would go with the one that fits you best and feels the most comfortable even though you want to carry it.You will have a better chance of never having to use it if you can see a pistol bulging out With all of the dif holsters out there you should still be able to hide a fullsize pretty well.
That is the reason why i didn't get a compact,my pinky was off the grip also and didn't feel right.
I plan to buy a 1911 eventually and get the conversion kit for 22 cal.The 45 auto costs way too much to shoot.

Split the difference. The Glock 22 is the full size model, the 27 is the compact, so take a look at the 23. I carry a 19, which is the same frame size as a 23 only in 9mm.

The mid-size Glocks are one of the best thing going in handguns, IMO; small enough to conceal easily, big enough to shoot comfortably, available in effective self defense chamberings, reliable as a brick. You'll have 13 rounds of .40 on tap with the 23 and the ability to use 15 round Glock 22 magazines.

And within reason when carrying, just about any gun can disappear with the right holster and a good belt.

My Glock has treaded me well. I will be getting a 19 soon.

As for the compact, if the only problem is the pinky finger hanging off, you can get a grip extension for the magazine to give you a little extra room and you can then fit 1 more round in it. I did this on my 30 and it made the fit perfect for me. Pearce was the one i got.

They make a piece that you can add to the bottom of your clip that adds a spot for your pinky. I belive it is called add a grip it also adds a round to the clip. I have one on my gloc and love it

Glock's are not a bad gun at all but you really should try a SIG P229 in 40 SW before you buy a Glock. I've had several over the years and they are a great concealed carry gun, smaller size and amazingly accurate right out of the box. I renewed my carry license last year and happened to get lined up next to a local cop on the firing line. I am not bragging by any means but by the time we were done with 50 rounds this cop was giving me pretty hard looks! My SIG pretty much took the center out of the target.

I think you are refering to the 239 not the 229. My 229 is the same size as my Glock 23, holds one less round and is twice as heavy. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my sig and enjoy shooting it more than shooting my Glock. As for accuracy between them my Glock in .357sig shoots just as accurate as my 229 in .40.

If I were picking a gun strictly to carry concealed I would stick with a polymer framed gun. Glock, HK, Springer XD, even the new S&W M&P. I carry my 229 as much as I carry my Glock and you can and will notice the difference even with quality holsters and stiff belts you can still feel the weight of an all metal gun compared to polymers.

My next gun will be an M&P in 9mm. Size wise it is about the same as my Glock 23, better grip angle, and in 9mm can carry 18 115+P+ hollow points. I would suggest you try shooting a few different guns before you buy.

You are correct trublu, the 239 is the smaller of the two. I don't carry my 229 on my person all that often so the weight doesn't really bother me (it fits nicely in the console) but the polymer one's are much lighter. I just never liked the feel of them...nothing like solid metal I say. Handguns are a very personal issue and to each his own.

Too lazy to read through all the posts but I shoot IDPA here in TX,

I shoot with only XD's. Have the XD9 Subcompact and the new XD .45 ACP Midsize. I am a lefty so this was my choice as the mag drops are on both sides and it works for me. Plus I think they look and feel better than the G's.

90% of the IDPA folks I shoot with use XD's or Springfield 1911's.

I have around 4K rounds through my 9 and I keep it incredibly clean...another OCD passion of mine. Clean truck, clean gun.

Good luck in your quest.
