Last time we saw them my bass played said "Do you know why they play like that??"
"Because they can!!"

I've seen Portnoy numerous times..
And he makes it look so easy..

If you really know drummers you will agree..
Portnoy is #1 Right now in my book..

I agree about Portnoy and Dream Theater.. and maybe the tightest band I've ever heard... freakin' amazing!!

But, since Portnoy says Peart is his idol, I still gotta leave Peart on top.

Then again, Peart says that Buddy Rich is HIS idol, so hmmmm.. LOL

All I remember of Buddy Rich is when he was a guest on Johnny Carson and he'd just blow the roof off..

I read an article way back when and Neil had stated Keith Moon was his idol..

Keith Moon was a hack as far as i'm concerned..

LOL, tho not bad for a guy who was drunk out of his mind 24/7

Dream Theater's lyrics.. I like 'em well enough, there's very much a Christian bent to them.

I've noticed that they seem to have Christian Rock bands open for 'em. The two bands opening from them on the Texas part of this tour are Redeemer and At His Mercy.

Has anyone here caught 'em on this tour?

I've heard they don't do 2112 (any part of the song) or any Hemispheres (the song) and don't do La Villa Strangiato, first time they haven't done these since they were recorded?

I'd love to hear those again, but apparently the show is like 3 hrs. and 27 - 30 songs..
Friend of mine called me today and asked if I wanted to go with him to tonight's show in Big D since his wife said she really didn't want to go. I had to decline since I have to work. Oh well.

Last time I saw RUSH was in Nashville around 83-84. Peart was awesome. The entire gig was great. I have to say though Bonham was great, too. You have to look at when he played. The band was one of the greatest imo, and he was part of that. Have a great time at the show.

no neil admired alot of things from each drummer. his idol was buddy rich. i have his dvd called a analogy of a drum solo about making of drum solo's and all. he tells u alot of info. he did a buddy rich trubute in nyc years ago called burning for buddy were he invited all of his drummer buddies there and they each played some of buddy rich along with the buddy rich band, u can buy this on cd called burning for buddy.

Great show!

The concert last night in was GREAT!!

It amazes me how tight and faithful they are to the recordings.. every freakin' lick pretty much what you went to hear..

For guys that have been doin' it for what? 38 years? just incredible!

The show was a little over 3 hours with a 20 minute intermission..

Geddy's voice was perfect, the bass slappin' got 10,000 people on their feet!

Alex never misses a damn note, can make it cry and then scream.. also he seems to have a fixation on toy dinosaurs.. lol

Neil freakin' Peart.. there was a guy two rows in front of us with his two sons, looked maybe 7 and 6 yrs. old.. My friend and I were laughing before the show started about bringing little ones to see Rush. Let me tell ya, those little guys stood in their seats and AIR DRUMMED like little maniacs right along with Neil.. LOL.. never once saw 'em cover their ears, and it was LOUD...

Peart's solo was the most amazing drumming I've ever seen or heard. The last couple of minutes were absolute jazz riffs, it was obvious his love of jazz..

Props to South Park too for the "Lil' Rush" intro to Tom Sawyer!! "Hey! I'm Geddy Lee! I'll sing whatever the hell I want!!" LMAO!!

Ftruck05 - ask your mom how many times she has seen them live .. if she can beat me, then she can say she is the greastest fan

Tonight will be my 54th live Rush show .. and I have seen them live in 4 decades.

As for Drummers .. there are a few that are heads and tails above everyone else ..

Neil Peart - Rush
Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater
Danny Carey - Tool

and I would rank them in that order .. as much for body of work as pure ability.
