Good price for an enclosed trailer??

Today my dad got a call from my uncle asking if either him (my dad) or I would be interested in buying the enclosed trailer that he has. It is a 2003 Atlas 20'X8.5'X7' (lengthXwidthXheight), with 7000lb GVW, electic brakes on both axles, rear swing doors and 36" front door, diamond plate rock gaurd on the front. The trailer has only been towed 3 miles, yes thats right 3 miles!!! It has been sitting ever since 2003. My uncle said that he paid 4300 for it and wants to get that back out of it, but dad and I were talking and think that 3500 is more down to earth. Since all the tires will have to be replaced and we don't know if mice or anything got into the wiring or the paneling inside.

Neither of us can justify buying the trailer ourselves, but we figure that if we go in on it together then each of us has 1/2 the money into it and the trailer will also get used alittle more that way.

I have no idea what a trailer like this is new, now days. Or what it is actually worth. Does anyone have any idea? Do you think that it is a good deal at 4300 or better deal at 3500? Or it is way over priced?

Thanks
Paul

trailers vary in price according to the location and build quality. check out ebay and look in your area for a general idea.

If your uncle paid $4300 for a trailer that he used a total of 3 miles,
I figure you should be able to get it from that knucklehead for about $2000.

Do you have a specific plan for a trailer that size, or does it run in the family?

My plan for the trailer is to use it for hauling my and my friends ATV's when we go riding, especially on our long trips to Waynoka OK, and to KY that way we can lock everything up and it is for the most part safe. Also I would be useing it for a job trailer, storing my work tools at sites with limited storage. That way I am not loading all my tools into the back of my truck everynight which gets very old, very fast, and also picking up and hauling the Amish cabinets that we are now paying someone else $400 per load to do. Thats about $250-275 (after gas) that would be going into my pocket and not someone elses.

My dads main reason for wanting the trailer is that we (the company that I work for) are going to be building them a new house this fall/winter. He wants to use it for moving into the house and also possibly temp storage for some things until they get stuff orginized.

My uncle Jim bought the trailer when he was getting his devorce. He didn't have any place to put most of the stuff that he wanted for the house, so he bought the trailer, loaded it up and it has been sitting at my other uncles place ever since. Now my uncle Jim is remarried and has enough space to put the stuff in the trailer so he wants to sell it.

Well, I'd give him his asking price minus new rubber all around.
That seems more than fair for everybody.

$3500 for a 20', double axle trailer is an awesome price. At least in NJ it would be.

My 12X6X6 CarMate with the rear ramp was almost $3500 after tax.

KC-10 FE out...
