Thanks for the info fellas!

We have a big family that always seems to have a lot of action, whether it be sports, hiking, football in the yard or other things going on, so I'm not at all worried about the exercise aspect. My only concern is the puppies would get too tired to fast from all the potential exercise.

In terms of toys, we already have quite a few but plan on taking the puppies to Petco when we're able to take them home in another 5 weeks and see what they like (this is more for the youngest brother and sister to take them). But I'll definitely look out for toys that will be stimulating in terms of "finding the treat".

So far it's turning out the girl (Lilly) will be everyone's main focus and Bubba will end up being pawned on me to train. Granted they'll be responsible for feeding and walking both of them, I think I'll have the fun job of going over there and training him.

Regarding human socialization, these guys won't have a problem as my parent's house is like Grand Central Station with people constantly coming and going.

However, I think our biggest hurdle will be dog socialization. While we live in a neighborhood with a bunch of dogs, it's not a neighborhood that lends itself to visiting your neighbor and socializing your dog. It's hard to explain, but the yards are all very large (3 acres) while still being a traditional neighborhood. My first instinct is to see them go to puppy classes instead of self training but with their current school and sports schedules, I just don't see that as a possibility. Though we'll definitely try.

They will be premdominantly outside dogs as the parents arn't a big fan of dog hair inside. This won't be a problem though as I'm currently drafting plans for a 15x6 dog kennel in the side yard that will have heated areas for the cold winters and cool areas in the shade for the warm summers.

Matt,

What do you mean by tag engraving machine? Is this the tag that goes on the pet collar? Also, do you have any pictures of what it'd look like or how much it'd cost?

Thanks again,

Duke

Duke, yes the machine is the machine that engraves the name tags you put ont he dogs collar. The machine just came in today so I'm still working on getting a few samples done and will take some pictures sometime tonight.

Duke, I have had 2 Goldens and can tell you that you will never find a more devoted dog, they will attach themselves to one person and that will be the one they always go to. They will love everbody in the family but will still be devoted to one person. The Golden I have now is 8 years old and has finally settled down to being calm most of the time. I don't think you could have made a better choice unless it was a Golden Lab mix.
Good Luck,
2 Feathers

ok still working on it but if your interested I can probably make you a deal on the tag for the pup!

Our shelter is going to be charging $7.50 for them, including shipping, can probably sell you one for less though since I'm still "demoing" the machine.
