LCD computer monitors

I'm going to buy a Dell desktop to replace the one I drug outside and shot. I was thinking of getting a new monitor while I'm at it. I currently have a 19" Sony Trinitron. It's a good monitor but one corner is starting to look funny.

Has anyone heard of or used the Hanns-G monitors?

No but I want video of you shooting the old computer!!!!

Years ago, when my brother and I were first learning computers, I'm talking about 13-15 years ago. We were trying to get one to fire up. Cant remember the specs but it was pre P1. We suspected processor connection so we had taken it out, inspected all soilders on the board checked pins a few times. The last time some how we managed ot get the processor in backwards and when jumped power pins to fire it up, nothing happend. So my brother reachs in to push on teh processor.
It made contact and fried!!!! Burnt his finger tips pretty bad. So we took everything we might want or could use out of the case. Took the case with the MB and processor, to the back yard and took turns beating the crap out of it with a baseball bat, throwing it, stomping it. Man we got rid of a BUNCH of aggretion on that thing. Then tossed it in the dumpster like the piece of crap it was. Man that felt good.

I'd look at the Dell monitors offered with the systems - the prices are just as good as 3rd party and they are good quality, I believe they are still being made by Samsung.

Hanns-G is supposed to be decent. I usually recommend Acer or BenQ for lower end monitors.

I wouldn't recommend a Dell anything. My brother-in-law is an engineering manager with them and he has a laptop that they gave him, but he and my sister both use Compaq desktops at home. So do I for that matter.

He's had a couple of Dell desktops and would never pay for another one.

They sent him to India last year to work with the software at a call center. He says it was basically an enormous warehouse with row upon row of cubicles and at the beginning of each row was a sign saying, "your name is ROBERT" or "DAVID" or "MIKE" or "ANN" or "LINDA".. you get the idea.

Just try calling Dell customer service and see who you talk to. And they charge $$ for the privelege of even giving support.

My family has had 4 Dell's and not one problem with any hardware, just Windows software. Which is more than I can say with my Compaq.

The montiors I linked to are cheaper than a comparable Dell model. They do have somewhat better specs.

My daughter has a Dell for going on her fourthyearin college---on problems to date. My son has a Delll---taking it with him to college. WE use Dells at school (I know, tremendous price break there) but I have never had a problem with mine in my classroom.

I have had more problems with the one I personally built for myself than my kids have had with their Dells.

As far as the monitor, it seems to be rated highly at newegg. That is a good sign. I will ask though, why only a 19". I have a 24", and if I had more room to use, would have a larger one.

As far as Dell, dealt with them once, never again. They are the reason I have had 4 Gateways with no problems. Then sold them to other people who in a couple of cases are still using them. Now I build my own.

Haans-G are pretty decent monitors if you're on a budget, as are brands like Sceptre and Acer. Personally, I tend to stick with Samsung since they've never given me a problem.

Yep, 27" would be nice. Unfortunately the slot I have for my monitor will only handle a 24" and not all of those.

I am currently using a Gateway monitor and like it. My last was an Apple HD Cinema, and this Gateway blows it away. far better picture and no dead pixels like the Apple.

I only recently upgraded to a 19" Sony CRT monitor. I thought about a bigger one, but I don't play games or anything anymore on my PC. I have a PS2 for that. A 19" or 20" will be more than fine for me. I did like that they had good reviews.

I don't play games either. I do play movies and with the widescreen, it is nice to be able to open multiple windows that I need up at the same time and still be usable. I have used Wordperfect before where I needed to cut and paste between 2 documents. Just bring them both up side by side and cut from one and paste in the other. Without having to drop a window to get to the other.

Depends on what you use it for, but using mine for work and play, I have found that the larger screens do have an advantage. They also make a nice HD monitor with an ATSC OTA tuner.

Could not be better. The ultrasharp too forgot to mention. Picture is Awesome, and the screen goes in any direction you want, sideways, up, down, diagonol, backwards. Great if you change positions of sitting or just for personal preference. Easy to use buttons. After sundown i usually put my brightness all the way to 0 because it hurts my eyes at its usual 50 at night, but then again my room is on the dimmer side. And i just bring it back up to 50 in the morning. It also has picture in picture but i dont use it because i dont have a tv tuner in my pc, so i dont know everything about it, but i knw its there...
