Really bad weekend...Now comes the aftermath

So I take Friday off and cut out of work early on Thursday to head up north to Mackinac Island with the family to go camping. Well we're all loaded up and I get about a mile on down the highway and the drivers side tire on my pop-up camper blows out. Well, since I'm only a mile from home I'd figure I would drop the camper and run back to my house to get some tools to make the job easier (better jack, electric impact wrench, etc...). As soon as I get home with the wife and kids, we get hit with a viciuos storm and a tornado hits in the next town over. I get the wife and kids out of the car and head into the basement (no power either). So I tell them to hang tight and I'll head back out to the truck to get an update on the radio (because we have no power in the house). Well I head outside in the storm, jump in the truck and they say the tornado has passed and the warning is over.

Now, I still have my camper sitting on the side of the road so I tell the family that they can come upstairs, I'm going to get the camper. One the way to get the camper, my CD player on my radio breaks, the CD get's stuck in there. Well I fix the flat, get the camper home and by now the storm is long gone. I head into the backyard to see if there was any damage from fallen trees and sure enough, 3 big limbs had snapped from 3 different trees and each one has taken out a section of chain link fence. The wife and I decide to forget heading up north on Thursday (by now it's late and we still don't have power).

So I wake up the Friday morning and head out with the camper. It is gorgeous out so I open the power sunroof while we're traveling down the road. After about 30 minutes the wife is getting a little wind blown so I try to close it. THE SUNROOF WILL NOT CLOSE. It reclines back to open, but won't go forward. So now I am 2 hours into my 4 hour trip with a gaping hole in my roof.

We finally get up to Mackinac City and after calling a few buddies for some input, I find out there is a manual way to close it but I have to remove the headliner. I'm not going to tackle this in a campsite, so for the last 3 days I've had a tarp over my roof in case it rains.

I got home last night and took out the headliner, manually cranked the roof closed. Now my truck is sitting in my driveway with a broken CD player and sunroof. The dealer wants over $400 for an OEM CD player/ stereo replacement and another $400 for a new sunroof motor. While we had fun camping and I really enjoyed the family time with the wife and kids, this has to be one of the worst weekends I've ever had. Tonight, I get to chainsaw tree limbs and run to home depot for chainlink fence replacement, after I double check to make sure that the motor on my sunroof is indeed shot.

I hope everyone out there had a better weekend than I did.

Damn dude.

I was sick yesterday, but I'd rather be sick than have your weekend.

At least it's almost over.....

Uh, I just had a coworker ask me how my weekend was so I had her read my post. She's still laughing as I write this.

I posted the radio and sunroof problems also in the forums but no one has really responded yet. I think I can find a cheap factory radio but I don't know how to test the motor for the sunroof.

Oh well, I'm just glad it's over.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade your radio, you can find better quality and less expensive aftermarket radios than OEM...unless you want to keep the factory look. $400 will get you a NICE head unit, but $150-200 (including wiring adapters and mounting kits) will get you set up nicely for the basic CD player.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would prefer an aftermarket radio actually, so I'll have to look into that.

My weekend wasn't as bad as yours but it could have been better.

Me and four of my friends drove to Minneapolis to see a Twins game on Friday. I took our company minivan so the five of us could all ride in one vehicle. After the game we went downtown to find a strip club and hit up a couple of bars. We park the van in a lot nearby. After the bars close we walk back to where the van should have been and it was gone. It had been towed. At this point I am really pissed off. Fortunately a cousin of mine lives in Minneapolis and was able to help us find the impound lot. Finally got to the impound lot at 3:30AM and had to pay $245 to get the van back. Then we still had to drive another 45 minutes to Shakopee where we were staying at another friends house.

The best part was when my one buddy decides to take a **** on the fence at the impound lot, and of course there are surveillance cameras everywhere, and the lot attendant yells over the speaker phone to stop pissing on the fence or he is going to call the cops.

I can top that.

I got my truck stuck at about 2AM Saturday morning. My friend took his Tacoma out there to bring us a chainsaw, hi lift jack, come-a-long, shovels, and a fourwheeler. But, he got stuck and ended up messing somethin up in his rear end so we had to leave it there and run all that stuff to my truck on the 450R, which wouldn't start unless you pushed it and popped the clutch. We spent about 6 hours that night jacking up the back up my truck and cutting down trees to stick under my rear tires and trying to get some of the water out of the ruts. Well we decided to call it a night and we came back about 3PM the next day and found 2 windows in my buddys Tacoma knocked out and I realized the right section of my rear window was shattered from my cb antenna hitting it. We finally got my truck out and I had to tow the Tacoma out of the trails and all the way home. Now my truck isn't idleing right and wants to shut off on me and something got bent back there by my rear right tire so after I spend about 2 days cleaning my truck then I am gonna have to try to figure out whats wrong with it.

I am really sorry to hear that buddy, my condoloences to you and your family.

Things are looking better for me, I was able to fix the sun roof, now onto the radio. I'll wait to fix the fence until tomorrow.

My wife made me go to her company picnic, spent 4 hours in the hot sun looking at fat chicks.
