Hello Everyone

Hello. I have been registered for some time now, but it was more for information gathering. I now have a reason to post. Couldnt find a forum for intros so I hope using general discussion is ok.

My dad is looking to buy a new F-150 since his daily driver's timing chain skipped and bent all the valves (Boom). He will probably be buying in the next week and I am hoping to gather some info for him. He wants a regular cab 4x4. It will probably be XL or STX trim. Anyone have suggestions on options or specs as must haves. I have been reading a ton already, but he is going to look tonite and I was hoping for some good info for him to use at the dealer.

As you can see, I have a Titan. But Nissan doesn't make a regular cab, basically his only requirement other than 4x4. Ford definitely has the best APR right now. So we are hunting the local Ford lots.

This forum looks well organized and from what I have read so far, very civil. Thanks for any suggestions or concerns you can bring to my attention with this new purchase for my dad.

Yeah, you haven't been lurking long enough.

The only must have I see is getting the 5.4L engine. Don't screw with the 4.6 despite what you read here.... the 5.4 is the engine to have.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

He's looking '07s since the year end clearnance is going on. He does not tow, he will be hauling basic home improvement stuff, but not much else. It is just him and my mom now so no need for a rear seat or anything fancy. Basically he wants a regular cab 4x4 with an automatic tranny. Past that its price and monthly payments that dictate what he wants. He needs the 4x4 for winter and the auto as his back doesnt take kindly to a clutch pedal anymore.

I am hoping for suggestions in equipment he should get that we might overlook. When I bought my Titan I didnt get any packages, which now I kinda wish I had just went with factory options initially. That type of suggestion from the community. I was a Chevy guy and now a Nissan guy so I am not as knowledgeable about what is happening within the Ford community as I would like if I am to help my dad.

I was going to suggest the 5.4L. Specs are similar to my Titan. Wish there was a 5 or 6 speed auto, but I hear that is still a few model years off. It is nice to have a tried and true tranny in there though. Looks to be only a 1 mpg trade off from 4.6 to 5.4.

Maybe no trade off. I have the XLT 4x2, 5.4 with 3.55 LS and get 16.5 to 17 around the metroplex, 19.2 plus on the highway, and I do not baby it. I run 75 to 85 on the highway. However, you typically don't get quite as good with the 4x4.

I would suggest getting the tow package for the extra transsmission cooler and better resale, even if you don't plan on towing.

Thanks. I was just going off the EPA listings. I know how that can mean nothing at all. My buddy had a Chevy Colorado with the I5 in it and I got the same 18-19 mpg with my Titan's 5.6 as him. He was pissed. If I remember right the tow package is only $300-$400. Looks like a good investment to me.

Welcome to the site!

Where are you at in NE Iowa?

I would agree with the other guys that mentioned getting the tow package. I rarely pull a trailer but it is nice to have the ability to, if and when the need arises.

Enjoy the F150.

Sorry for the delay in response. Been in meetings all week. I live in Elgin, about 650 residents. Nice and quiet.

Also on the truck front. My dad was going to trade in his Mustang GT but the dealer backed out of the first offer. We're kinda pissed, but we are planning on heading over again as long as it doesnt rain tonite.
