Electric DA sander

I need one as in literally yesterday!!!!

Where to buy?
I cant seem to locate one locally yet.

I dont have an Aircompressor big enough to run an pneumatic, and it doesnt make since to use a 220v, 5 hp, 30 amp motor just to run a, 1 hp sander that could be 110V and 10 amps...

I know they make them I just cant find any at any sites I have used or trust.

Dumb question real quick:
Are Random Orbit sanders the same as DA (Dual Action)?
What about a random orbit dual action????

I have some Fiberglass work I need to do to my boat and need a sander yesterday. I have a 7" variable speed sander/polisher, but it's cutting waaay to fast, leaving lots of waves and teh paper is almost $0.80 a sheet.

I have several random orbital sanders.

i like Bosch then the dewalt then the ryobi is just a cheap one.

They spin fast.. but they are 5 inch and the paper is cheaper.

I finer grit would work slower but you would go through more.

hope that helps and I did not repeat what you already know.

Yea thats the problem I'm having with this 7", the finest paper I can find locally is 80 grit... might as well be trying to use a grinder.

So is random orbit the same as DA?

It has been many years But at my friends body shop I recall using the DA on air.

It is a high speed random sander as not to leave swirl marks and no real torque.

The bosch as I recall spins random at about 10-12 thousand rpm but has more torque than the DA.

Yes, I lucked out, picked up a Makita 5" Random Orbit with hook and loop backing and dust collector for $10 at the pawn shop. Worked great!!!!

I wasn't sure about the hook and loop, I was really wanting adhesive. Paper selection, isn't as large with the hook and loop. Basically it's either Course Medium or Fine, but worked well.

One day when I get a bigger air compressor I'll grab a DA but this one works for now. Saved tons of time. Still spent about 12 hours sanding but would have been 12 hours for 5 days or longer by hand.

I recall what DA stands for. Dual Action, sort of like the Crofton sisters back in high school...

Honestly I couldn't tell much differnece in the final product of the DA and the random orbit. Other than I can get finer paper for an adhesive pad DA.

Have you tried Home Depot. In Canada Home Depot caries up to a 320 grit for the 5 " loop and hook backing.

No havent tried there, closest one is 45 mins away. I just went to walmart and Lowes.
Lowes may have had some but my store was all out of all hook and loop.
WTF??
My luck right!
Guess everyone is sanding something this past weekend.... I've got to go to Springfield next week for mettings when I go back to work I'll swing by home depot.
