If you do not have Microsoft Office on your PC, or something like Wordperfect office, you will not be able to open them., Also if you do have MS Office, but it is an older version, you may not be able to read it either. MS likes to change it's format about every other version so you have to keep upgrading.
You may be able to find a viewer that you can download. Just do a search for word viewer and excel viewer.

.doc is a file extension for Microsoft Word

try this link to download and install Word viewer from Microsoft. Its a free program that lets you view and print MS word documents.

if you are referring to the house thing, yes, very frustrating. i would have never in my wildest dreams thought we would have had such a hard time. i have found you really have to do your homework. the last house was being built and we had a great deal. a good friend recommended we go to the house towards bed time or later to see if it quiets down. who would have thought that a 2 lane country type road would never slow down. even worse at night with truckers (18 wheelers) blowing down the road. we were a hair away from making it our own till that fatefull night. so now the next saga. this one is definatley quiet. like open all your windows and still sleep but still have some neighbors close enough if you need anything. so if they except our offer, then the home inspection.......so.....what have you been going thru vader?

My bro in law's bro just bought a house and turns out his house sits on a race track that runs from 7pm to 12am every night from April to October. He is screwed.

Me? I'm trying to, now I know this sounds crazy. Sell my house, sell my mother's and my sister's house, then by land and get a builder to put up three new homes. It is unbelievable crazy. Offers, counter offers, options, 1/2 off options, lot premiums, etc.

ARGGH!!!

When we sold our house and bought this one five years ago, it was truly riding an emotional roller-coaster. Having the agent call and say, "I have somebody here---could you do a walk-through in a half-hour?" (Keep in mind that we had a daughter then who was fifteen and ason who was 13.) We worked and worked at keeping the house immaculate. The biggest pitfall was that we had an in-ground pool and I was told by my real estate agent to consider filling it in.

Why on earth would your realtor tell you to do that?? I would think a pool would add to the value of your property

Quite a few people find keeping up a pool to be 1) a big hassle 2) an expense they don't want/need.

Very true. That's why it's actually better to have an above ground. Easier to take down.

Also, I would think homeowner's insurance would higher - with the possible risks involved. Around these parts, the city/county ordinance's are also something to look at. Around here, they require all doors from the home that have access to the pool to have an operable alarm to alert you when the doors are open. Some places also require the entire pool area to be fenced off.
