Question '97 vs. '96

I need some help deciding between a couple trucks...

Truck 1
-1997 F150 XL, 4.2L V6, extended cab, short box, some rust/minor body dmg, 192000km, 90000 on engine, 30000 on transmission, lots of new parts, canopy, all history for truck is available.

Truck 2
-1996 F150 XLT, 302, extended cab, short box, body in great condition, 175000, matching canopy.

Both are asking $6500

I need something mainly for a personal truck that might be used for a bit of work, but i mainly just need it to last a while.

Which would be my better bet?

There was no 302 in '97. So unless it is a franken-truck, you might want to check the year on that one. The '97 was the first year of a major re-design, so if the 302 is a '96 or earlier, its going to have the old body and running gear.

Like DBDave said.....no 302 in 97. I know a lot of people mistake the 4.6 for the 302 and the 5.4 for the 351 though. Actual sizes are 281 and 330 respectivley.

I would go for the one with the v8 though. The 4.2 v6 isnt on my list of 'reliable' engines.
