Impound

Hey -

So they impounded my old 1982 Audi. Stupid HOA.
I dont want the car, I was trying to give it away on Craigslist.

Now I have to pay impound $150 just so I can sign the title over to them and get rid of it. What a jip.

I'm right in assuming I have to pay them, even if I dont want the car back right? They can send collections after me even though I didnt request them to take the car right?

I think untill you sign over the title they charge you storage of the car. You might want to make a phone call to them. You never know they could be charging you daily storage?

I imagine they will also hit you up for tow fees. And the storage fees are probably charged per day, so take care of it ASAP. I think you will be lucky to get out of it for only $150.

And yes, as the car's owner the tow company & impound yard will absolutely go after you if you don't resolve it.

FWIW, you probably should have paid more attention to your HOA's rules and regulations/CC&R's. I'm sure when you moved in you agreed to abide by them.

Surprisingly, most people don't like to live surrounded by junk cars. Drags everyone's property values down. If I had a place for sale in your HOA and your old car was an eyesore and against the rules, I'd ask the HOA to enforce the rules, too.

Yea I intend to go at lunch, just thought I would look for imput.

I asked a tow truck driver on a local forum and he said they could send it to collections and put it against my credit, but often times they are too lazy to go to the effort.

He suggested I try and trade the title for the bill. But the car is a POS and I dont really have any bargaining power. They'll probably play hard ball and I probably won't risk getting burned.

Oh well. thanks.

HOA's are really ***** in disguise. I'll never live in a neighborhood with one.

Fortunately, I don't have an HOA. It was stored at my folks place.

Same exact thing happened to a friend of mine. You CAN try to let them have the car in exchange, but it's up to them. The only advice I can give is to handle it ASAP because the fees stack up daily.
