Should I buy a used Towncar????
Should I buy a used Towncar????
A client of mine has a 99 Towncar for sale with 124,000 on it. Perfect condition, original owner and solidly maintained. Wants $5,000 for it but would probably go as low as $4500.00. Car was used to drive back and forth from Michigan to Arizona. Retired couple own it. Good deal or not??????

Good deal, solid cars. Best thing Ford's got going right now, IMO. Only real troublesome areas for those cars were the blend door breaking in a similar fashion that they do in previous gen F150s and Expeditions/Navigators. Except on a Town Car, you can't get just the door, you have to replace the entire plentum assembly. Age can conspire against the rear air springs too, causing them to split and start leaking. Otherwise, they're great cars. Good highway cruisers delivering surprisingly good fuel economy for what they are. Easy to work on and the parts prices are pretty reasonable since they aren't nothing but a Crown Vic in different sheet metal.
Thanks Q. I'm gonna offer him $4000.00 and see what he says. I'm kinda young for a Towncar (42) but love that smooth quiet ride! I'm just a little worried about the high miles but have read that they are pretty durable. The body and paint are perfect but it has a little surface rust on the inside bottom seam of the doors. Saw one on Autotrader with 296,000!!! Sounds like it would be a good 2nd car to put in the driveway next to the 03 Supercab. They seem to be going for between $6,000 and $8000 around here. Cheap parts and durable sound good!!!

I have a customer that runs a fleet of vehicles, he runs all over the south east selling mattresses in a couple of Town Cars, an Expedition or a Navigator I forget, and a Rodeo (I think). One of his Town Cars has 350,000 miles on it (we put an engine in it at 270K-something) and the other one has 110Kish on it. They're rock solid cars.
