It's more fun to let a silent but deadly one in a car while you are the driver and have the widow's and doors locked.

Hell, if you just drive out there and back it will take a week driving long hours each day. About 2500 to 2800 miles one way, maybe 35 windshield hours at best.

On the flip side, I have driven it two or three times, and always enjoyed it more than a flight. If you have the time, do it. Don't try to stay on a schedule, just enjoy the country as you go. You may never make it to California, with so many interesting things along the way.

I'm not worried about having a vehicle out there if I were to fly. I stay with family, and almost always have access to my aunt's 2006 EB Expy... And 06darkstone, that is exactly what we were thinking. If we do make this drive, we seriously will eat nothing but double doubles once we hit Arizona. glc, we won't be stopping anywhere to stay the night. We might make a quick stop at the Grand Canyon, take some stupid pictures, and be on our way. And mooning passing cars a well practiced tradition.

I say taking a cross-country trip like that behind the wheel is an essential experience. If nothing else, afterwards you'll clearly understand why they invented the airplane.....

We had some flooding here, but only enough to close roads, no using a boat to get around - biblical proportions - type of flooding.

Still, it's rained like a SOAB ever since I got here (except for two days). If the locals find out the correlation they'd probably ask me to leave.

The good thing about it is that in searching for a home to buy, I am quickly able to discover if flooding problems exist in basements.

You wil have fun both in cali and in the car so I say ROAD TRIP!!!!
I love road trips though. 90% of trip stories come form the trip getting there and back. Unless your on a boring plane.
Take a cheap tent so you can pull into a KOA and sleep a night for $8 if you both happen to be tired. It's not worth getting in a wreck 1000's of miles from home, having to find a new ride or get yours fixed, not to mention time in a hospital, just to get there 6 hours earlier becsaue someone was droggy or fell asleep at the wheel. That can ruin your entire trip and maybe even make it last a couple of weeks longer and not even get to where you were going. It's no fun being stranded in a town for any length of time. Pitch a tent, crash for 6 hours then pick up and pull out again.

After your last post, I have to change my recommendation. Fly.

The reason to drive is to see things and have flexibility. Your statements tell me that you don't really care about either, you don't need a vehicle when you are out there, and the more time you spend in CA the more fun you will have. Driving all day and all night on Interstates and eating fast food on the fly all the way just isn't fun. Save the wear and tear on your vehicle and your *****.

One of these days, you will be ready to do a road trip and do it right. I just don't detect that readiness yet. You gotta have a better reason than the ability to moon passing cars, eat In-n-Out, and visit strip joints - you can do plenty of that out in CA.

You don't just blow through the Grand Canyon and take a few pics - it's an all day evolution especially considering it's 90 miles off the Interstate.

I've learned to reserve judgement until all the facts are in.

My concern would be putting him on an airplane where he can moon four or five states at a time.

The lightbulb just turned on in my head... not sure why I never thought about this before...

And I think we might be driving... The story alone will be worth it. We can always turn something boring into an interesting time.
