Springfield Armory XD-9

First of all I want to see if there are any XD-9 owners out there. Earlier today I took my XD-9 to the range for the first time. My opinion of my overall experince today was very good. I am a huge Glock fan, and I was on the fence about this gun before today. 165 rounds later I was impressed (so far). I still have some rounds to sling through it before I can make my full verdict, but my first trip was very successful. I used a mix of ammo today to see what the XD-9 likes and it shot all three equally well. 124 gr. Winchester was my first instinct to shoot. Went great. Next was 115 gr. Winchester. No problems. So I upped the stakes a little and decided to try 115 gr. Monarch steel case. I ended up shooting 2 boxes of cheap-o Monarch 115 gr. through it quickly trying to cause a problem. Not a single hiccup. So far so good. I'm looking for testimonials or any other info good or bad. TIA.

i did have one and loved it... at least until somebody broke in and stole it. probably put about 500 rounds through it total, only had one foul. but that was because the casing actually has a manufacturers defect. great gun. now i have a sig sp2022. havent used it much though. at least not yet.

I've heard and read nothing but good things about the XD-9, indeed all of the XD models.

Have you tried any Cor-Bon +P through it? That and the 147 gr. sub-sonic loads seem to be the tests at the extreme ends.

How's the muzzle flip with hot 115 gr. loads?

Those XDs are great guns, probably the best kept secret in semi auto handguns next to CZ-75s. My next pistol is gonna be an XD-45 compact.

Shot the XD-9 for a while and loved it. The grip angle is what caused me to go to the XD from the Glock. Only reason I got rid of the XD-9 was to get a XD-45 . Plus I ended up giving the XD-9 my dad so it is still in the family.

There is also a fairly good XD web site/forum for info: www.xdtalk.com

When I had the 9, I shot a variety of loads thru it with no problem. It did not seem to care if I ran top line ammo, my reloads, or factory remfg stuff...just kept of functioning.

I haven't shot the XD-45 yet. I did like the XD-40 as well, but I stumbled across this XD-9 at a good price when I was at the gun show looking for the XD-40. I shot my XD-9 along with a Glock 31? 357 sig which we had a 40 cal barrel for. That is a nice feature on the Glock being able to switch out the barrel and the laser on it was still very accurate. I was impressed with the tight tollerances Glock used while we switched out the barrel. My personal preference was I like the way the XD-9 and the XD-40 felt in my hand better than the Glock. Both great guns, but the grip angle was a factor for me. Either way both great guns, I just happen to run across this XD-9 at the right price.

Does anyone know what the barrel on the XD-9 is twisted for? 115 gr., 124 gr. or what? I have more questions but I will ask one at a time...

I was at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and got to handle the XD-45 Compact. 10 rounds with a "short" mag (two finger grip for me), 13 rounds in a mag with a grip extension that mates perfectly to the frame and gives me a full three finger grip.

VERY NICE!!

I don't know if I can take the Springfield Champion out of the holster for it, but that XD Compact has really got me thinkin'.. just maybe.. need to go rent one at the range to see how it shoots.. What a nice pistol tho!

How much were they asking for that XD45 Compact?

I've got a real itching for one...

Well I'm not sure about the xd-45 but the Sprotsman's Wherehouse here in Lewisville was selling the XD-9 for $479 which was the best price I found in about 15 gun stores. Their ammo isn't as cheap, but they had the best price around here for that XD-9.

Yep, the sticker was $515 in Round Rock. I'm seriously thinking about it.

I saw yesterdy $528 at Academy. It was a few weeks ago when I saw that price at SW, so I'm not sure if it is still the same price. But I checked more than a dozen gun shops up here and all were $499 or higher. I never buy anything without researching prices first. I'm certainly not guilty of being a frequent impulse buyer. I hate it when I used to buy something and a buddy would be like "you paid too much for that, I got mine for X amount". Now I always get the best price I can. I work hard for my money...

The XD series is awesome. Handgun of the year last year, and someone told me it was the second year in a row for it. Not really sure. But the girlfriend bought the XD40 on my recommendation and she absolutely loves it. We've put close to 1000 rounds through it in the last couple months. She initially bought cheap ammo, before I convinced her to at least go for the American Eagle or better. Gun has never had a single jam or any hiccup for that matter. It shoots just as sweet as can be. I'm pretty sure it will be my next handgun purchase, but most likely in 45.
