The 87 was one of the better, more reliable years. Definitely check the fiberglass for cracks and make sure there are some maintenance records. One thing to be aware of is the digital dash. They can be pretty pricey if they go out. I do think Mid America has rebuilt ones with a core charge for yours, but they can still be up there in price. Also, make sure the top fits correctly (I'm assuming it's a coupe). If they're taken off and not put on when the car is level it'll squeak and is more prone to cracking. Those cars pretty much rode like bricks so some squeaks and rattles are normal, but not excessive. Make sure the frame is not cracked, too. Not driving a car (as this wasn't judging by the mileage) can be harder on it than racking up the mileage.

The seats needing work sounds a little funny unless it's just plain neglect of the leather. Providing the car is in decent shape, it sounds like a great deal. I'm jealous....I've wanted a 'Vette for a long time. Good lucks and post pics if you get it.

$6500 is a fair price for the car if the body and interior are good to excellent. By interior I mean the dash, door panels and such...20 year old leather almost always needs to be replaced.

Check and make sure the rear end is not leaking, that the window motors work and the digital dash is working right. If its an auto smell the trans fluid on the dip stick and make sure it doesnt smell burnt...the 700r4 trannys are by far the weak link in these cars. The L98 engines were pretty much bullet proof though...expect 150,000 miles out of it (just plan to put an altenator on it every 2,500). Also listen to the AC compressor and see if its rattling...those were notorious for having bad bearings.

I've seen some mid to late model C3s (75-82) Corvettes in decdent shape go pretty cheap. One guy picked up a clean '79 for under $5,000 a week ago. The 74-79 cars are fairly heavy though and not exactly power houses although the L82 engine was decent. But if you're just looking for something to drop the t-top and cruise they are OK. With older Vettes be sure to throw them on a rack and inspect underneath and check the frame for rust and repairs.

The 87, when new, was around 13.7 in the quarter and the late C3s 15-16 depending on engine and trans.

The market will soften a little as we move into fall and worsen through January and then start picking up again as people get Vette spring fever.

I'm currently involved in the sale of a 1995 Corvette, only 42k. I hope someone buys it soon, lol. I am tired of looking at it.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking it...now I can say it and not sound like a jerk since I am the 3rd one mentioning it.

LOL LOL, Soon as I saw the thread, all I could imagine was that scene in "Cadillac Man" (With Robin Williams) When that fat fawker tries to shoe-horn himself into the Porche, his belly is getting squeezed by the steering wheel, haha.

Robin Williams, the greasy used car salesman says "yeah, you look great in that car, what a perfect match"

Please accept my apologies Bucky, I didnt realize you were fading away to almost nothing, my bad.

I've been doing good lately too, dropped some more poundage this past month.

Hopefullt D fires up his contest again, I want a chance to win my money back.
