Gruesome, Yet Somehow Very Interesting...

I'm stuck in a hotel for the next 3 weeks, and I'm bored, so I'm cruising the wonderful world of youtube, when for whatever morbid reason, I search for "autopsy".

Now, I've seen the HBO docs on the business and stuff, but I haven't seen anything on there like what I ran across on youtube.

I won't link it, because some won't want to see it, yet they will click on the link. So if you want to see it, search it yourself.

I will warn you though, there are a couple heavy duty vids on the subject. The one I found was on a beautiful younger woman, about 35ish I'd guess. If you don't want details, then stop here.

I was amazed how fast they do an autopsy. I don't think the total time for it took more than 20 minutes. In that time, they removed her skin from the waist up, the front of her rib cage, the breast implants, her heart, lungs, kidneys, stomach, liver, appendix, and took sliced samples after weighing each item. Then they split her scalp in two, peeled it back, and cut her skull cap off like a jack-o-lantern. They reached in, cut both optic nerves, dropped her brain out far enough to see where it connects with her spine, and then snip snip. You could see all of the inside of her skull, and eye sockets.

As gruesome as the whole thing was, it was simply fascinating. What got me a little bit was that they used a standard pair of tree branch snips to cut her rib cage out. I guess seeing half of a head with her face peeled down was also a little bit ooky, but still was amazing.

For those of you that have seen it, or do go and watch it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the whole thing. I could pm the link if needed.

Pretty interesting..... I just watched the autopsy of the woman you were talking about They do fly through the procedure. I was hoping for more footage of the organs being disected seperately, like they were doing at the end Im going through school in a medical field, so i see some weird stuff at school, so it doesn't bother me near as much as when I first started. good find I never thought they would put this on youtube, but i dont mind.

They usually only go that far if it's going to be a closed casket or the body will be cremated. If the body was donated to science (like the one in the vid appears to be), that would really be the only time it would be that thorough.

I know if I'm stuck in a hotel for a few weeks, death would be the last thing on my mind.

Due to work, I have to go to autopsys occasionally. The are interesting to see, and exactly like what they show in this video. What is the worst part is the SMELL.. Horrible..

But to answer your question, they just put everything back and throw a couple stickes in the hold everything in place. Can't tell..

The crazy thing is that after I watched it the other night, I didn't want to watch it again right away. It's like when the very first "Faces of Death" video came out and I saw it. I just sat back and freaked out about how sudden and unexpected our time can run out.

It doesn't bother me to die, but I sit and contemplate what my wife and kids would go through, or what I would do if one of them was gone tomorrow.

I know that there are those of you on this board who have already gone through that. I'm not sure how one finds the strength to get out of bed the next morning after losing a child.

But anyway, now I want to actually go see one live. I don't know if it's possible, but I'm thinking that it would be a good field trip for a bunch of highschool kids I know that think driving, partying, and doing stupid things (like I used to do) to see. Kind of makes you think.

If any of you ever see more of this on youtube, let me know. I'd also like to see a little more coverage of the processes.
