New Camera Pentax

My GF ordered a camera off QVC the other day cause her Kodak C330(4.0mp) took a crap. She ordered a Pentax 3x zoom 10mp. It is only 7/8" thick I would think going from 4.0mp-10.0 mp will make my truck look that much better. I have never heard of Pentax before Does anyone have any opinoins on this camera; or Pentax as a company? What else do they sell?

Anything above 5mp generally won't make a visible difference. It really comes in handy for picture editing, or blowing pictures up, but at normal size it isn't going to be very noticeable. Sorry!

Pentax made their fame in medium format film cameras. Some of the best glass money could buy came from Pentax.

When you get into consumer cameras there is not much difference if you are buying from the big brands, and Pentax fits right in that category.

My opinion is to read the cnet.com reviews of digital cameras. I used it when making my recent purchase of my first camera. Got a Canon PowerShot A540 (it's an 06 model) cost me $160 new. You might also check some photography review sites. there are a few.

My very first good good camera as a kid was a Pentax Auto 110 analog.

I took literally 1000's of rolls of pictures with it and I'm sure if I dug it out it would still work today.

Own a Pentax 35mm SLR film camera, bought a few years a Pentax DSLR, its there IST DS* or close to it...lol also have a small pocket size one from Pentax and love every one of them. You can go to their web site and find out some about them but they have been around for a long time.

Is that the little 110 SLR? I have one of those around here somewhere, with 3 lenses and a flash. Slick little camera.

Yep, my grandpa picked it up for me somewhere, cheap I'm sure. I had used a Kodak 110 since I was about 4 and loved taking pictures even then. So I didnt have to get my parents to go out and buy new film or anything. 110 is such a forgiving format, it was a great one to learn on. I'd love to be a kid now with a computer and digital. I would be so much further advanced right now.

I also have an old Canon A-1 with a box full of accessories, this is probably one of the best consumer grade film cameras ever made - I'm holding off on going good digital till the price of digital SLR's comes down some more. In the meantime I have an old Sony Mavica that uses floppy disks and my cell phone. Neither one takes good pictures, they are both only 640x480 VGA. The only good thing about the Mavica is its 10x optical zoom.

You can find Nikon D50's-D70's and Canon D SLR's for around $700-$800, I dont think they are going to be droping much if any more than that anytime in the next decade.

The other option is see if Canon ever releases a digital SLR body that will take my FD lenses. I could care less about autofocus, I know how to focus a camera.

Considering I have a Canon FD 28/2.8, 50/1.4, a Vivitar original Series 1 70-210/3.8, and a vanilla Vivitar 28-200 4.5, I think I have plenty of lenses.

I dont think it's ever going to happen.
They want everyone to switch everything.
I kept thinking surely someone would make atleast an adapter, I dont think thats going to happen either.

Even some of our older strobes and studio lights wont work with digital either.
I cant imagine going back to analog though. I persoanlly have been Digital for 2-3 years now, The savings in film alone is huge and the benifits of seeing the image right then are even larger. The studio I work for is going digital next month. Reduces retakes which reduces drive time and hourly pay to pay a photgrapher to go again, less maintence too. I can not for the life of me figure out why it too them so long to get us digital.
