OK, Computer Gurus!

My computer keeps rebooting---I get a screen that says that it cannot ifnd autocheck, skipping autocheck...So I try to boot it up and repair it from my CD---and when t gets to the screen where I am to insert the MS number code, it freezes up. What to do, Oh Yodas of the MS empire?

Is this an OEM edition of XP? Or an actual edition?

Sorry I had to leave for a few.

Is it one that came with your computer?
If it's an OEM that came with you computer then the first 3 digits of the MS number code will aslo be OEM.

If it's not an OEM then is it the full version or an Upgrade disk?

Possible defective hard drive or ram memory. You can test them both - determine the brand of hard drive in it and download the diags from their site, and you can download ram diags from www.memtest.org. The diags are run from a boot floppy or CD, you create it from the download, read the instructions. To burn a bootable CD, you will need a CD burning program that can handle an ISO image.

The auto-check usually consists of running a check on the RAM, as said above me the only way to check for defective RAM is with memtest.
