Tore my bicep!

I tore my right bicep Weds while lifting a safe. The doc told me yesterday that I need surgery to reattatch it. They are supposed to call me Monday and tell me what time to come in for the surgery Thursday. The doc says it's a simple procedure, but my arm will have to be immobolized for a month!! That is gonna suck! How am I gonna clean my truck and post here? I guess I'll have to "hunt and peck" my posts in.

The funny thing is it really doesn't hurt. The doc says that is because a lot of times when you tear a muscle, you tear the nerves loose also, so it doesn't hurt. I knew something was wrong because my arm was suddenly really skinny near my elbow! Instead of doing my arm workout that afternoon, I was on the phone trying to find my doctor!

Eh, who needs an acl. I haven't had one in my right knee for 20 years now.

But a bicep? Gotta have one (both actually) of those. Good luck with the surgery Wandell.

Not since I had a scope to repair torn cartilage I had developed. That was over 5 years ago, no problems since.

Wandell I am sorry for jacking your post here
Stealth you can run and jump down off stuff and it don't hurt? After hooking up my toybox the other day I jumped off the tongue of the trailer and though I was going to die it hurt so bad. I never got any of it fixed, I tore my miniscus thing too and have yet to get it fixed. And if I step in a little hole wrong I will go down, Just wondering if you have any problems like this?

My acl is completely gone, severed in two. Yours may be partially torn, therefore you feel pain when you tweak it. I saw where my acl was supposed to be in the MRI, doc said my body absorbed it, kind of like a rubberband snapping in the middle.

My torn miniscus was what was causing the pain. I'll explain. Think of a 1/2" square, flat with 4 sides. Well mine was connected on only one side, so when I did the wrong move, it would banana peel between my knee bones and when it gave way, POP! Ouch did that hurt. It would hurt and swell up for a week or so. I let this go on for many years. But after the scope and the cartilage flap was cleaned out, no problems. It's really no big deal to have done.

wandell -

As I am sure you are aware, it's called a slap tear.

I have my bicep separated from my shoulder and the muscle is slightly torn too further down. I can move my arm in certain directions with no ill effects and can not move it in others at all without intense pain. I have no strength and can lift almost nothing at this point. At first it was only mildly sore but it has degenerated to a serious degree after all this time. I did it about a year ago. Having the surgery on July 27th (I had other surgeries to attend to that were more important)

You will be immobile for a month, in a sling for about two months but you probably won't be back to full use for about 6 months (at least that's what I'm told . . . of course it could be a long time for me due to my advanced age)

I'm also told it's one of the most painful physical therapy recoveries out there . . . so we've got that to look forward to.

Good luck with yours.
