I'd suggest against buying a mac if you are going to be using it in a home network or something, and it really cracks me up in the beginning of the thread how you guys thought it was Core 2 lol.. Intel doesn't make Core 2 architecture chips at a stock 3.2GHz, the fastest they sell now are the Core 2 Extreme X6800 at 2.93GHz and the Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6800 again at 2.93GHz at a respectively priced $975 and $1,375 for JUST the chip alone. The 3.2 GHz Pentium D is either a 940 or a 945 (it depends on the stepping of whether it is B0 or C1). I used to have multiple Extreme Edition 965's, that I would take one and overclock it to the max, then it usually fries then I move onto the next, I get engineering samples from Intel. The furthest I ever got with my CPU Liquid Cooling system was 4.7GHz, currently the third place record in the world.

Comparing the two systems I hate to say the AMD wins hands down (my dad works at Intel, I despise AMD) and it sounds like it has better features also. About the onboard video, ANY and ALL onboard video absolutely is horrible no matter what. You won't see a difference for web browsing, watching movies, or just working within windows and such, the only place you will see the horrible 3D performance is in super demanding 3D games. But for the money, about 600, it's fine. I've dumped over $4,000 into my computer and get additional thousands in free gear, it just goes to show that computers aren't cheap when you need raw performance lol.

In conclusion I say buy the AMD rig, but if you can, keep looking at online retailers, as they often have much better deals than anywhere else.

Thanks for all the info...

I'm still looking, but thinking about just waiting till the new house is done. My laptop is getting me by for now.

BTW, the only reason I was really looking now, is that my mother's PC fried, and I loaned her my old Vaio... She's happy with it, so I'm just going to let her keep it, and look for something new...

BTW, I'm not interested in a Mac. If I'm going to stray from Microsoft it will be toward Linux... But as little as I use a home PC these days, I'll probably just stay with Windows...
