I am writing this from my laptop, as I believe that one of my darling children went somewhere they shouldn't have---all I get is the computer constantly trying to boot and reboot, with the message, "Cannot find autochck, Autocheck cancelled."

How do I get to safe mode or what can I do---my virus protection is up-to-date and I have (at least I thought I did good anti-spyware service, as well.Thanks so much,

F8 during bios. maybe right after bios, but before the windows xp screen shows.

 

can't even get into safe mode---the safe mode screen comes up, but then it tries to authock---not found---skips it, and reboots all over again.

On the screen that lets you choose Safe Mode choose Last good configuration instead. If that doesn't work you may have to do a repair install if you have an actual xp cd.
