haha I love quick fixes!!!

I was 17, there was an FFA meeting, I had a 69 F100.
One of the girls in my FFA chapter and I decided to make a date of it. Her dad is a local conservationist, so this could be a good thing for me, definatly want to get on daddys good side. I was to have her back at 11 o'clock.
I had every intentions of making it ealier to impress daddy. The event was still going on at 10:30 so we call him and let him know. He agrees to let us stay until midnight. About 11:50 we leave just as it was starting to end.....

About 4 miles from her house, at 11:58, I start to over heat. I pull over and I had busted my fan belt. So while we are letting it cool off, and trying to come up with a solution, (this was beofre everyone had cell phones). The clock is ticking, (we are making the best of the situation ) 20 mins later it's finally cooled off and it dawns on me. Part of the FFA uniform is nylons, I make her take off her pantyhose off and I use them as a belt to get us to her house.

Once we arrive, her dad is sitting on the porch boiling mad. He imediatly notices her pantyhose are gone. he FLYS OFF THE HOOK!!! Took her, her mom and her sister to keep him from killing me! Finally get him calmed down long enough to look at my engine and see where we had been and where her pantyhose where.

He apologised and I got to take her out several more times....

Now I'm married to her cousin..........

Cant match that one, but few years ago was on a fishing weekend when the throttle linkage for the carb on the boat motor breaks. ****, now what?

Took an empty can, cut a piece out and bolted it up, worked great.

Boat fixes are the worst, if you didnt bring it, then you aint got it and aint gonna get it. I've got a ton of McGyver stories just the last 2 years from this old 1978 tub of mine.

The only times I havent gotten it back to shore on it's own was when the starter froze up, ran out of gas, and when the engine coupler blew out.

I cant think of anything that tops cutting up a can to make linkage though. Good thinking!

Well that weekend we had plenty of empty beer cans laying around, I came up with the idea over a cold one at the dock

Hell spent the last two weeks trying to get my buddy's 76 Evinrude running, well more waiting on parts. Ran the multi meter over every damn wire and connection on that thing. Found the rectifier was toasted so we replaced that, nothing. The stator looked ok at the first look, after the rectifier fixed nothing I took another look at it and ran my finger over it and found a crack, so I pulled it off and it was melted inside New one is finally arriving tomorrow from Texas. Like I told him when he baught it, "Your gonna curse two-strokes" he now knows why. Older two-stroke electrical systems are very tempermental

Last time I got the truck stuck in this damn mud hole in the middle of nowhere I was sitting there with my cousins very attractive and also best friend, for about half an hour till they came back with a tow vehicle. But if you think that a dad will hurt ya

I know what you mean on the older 2strokes too, I just sunk my ski last week and been fighting with it all week. I had it dryed out and running with in an hour, but took me unitl last night to get it to rev at WOT. Electronics do funny things when they are wet.

Ya, electronics and water dont get along too well. One friend had his window broken and it was pouring rain. His window and door lock switches didnt work so well after that.

With the boat I knew something was up the first time we took it out, had to really give her from idle or it would die, he didnt think it was any big deal . Next week he went out and it died within 10 minutes and wouldnt restart. I love the call I got from him, "Dont laugh but my boat died in the middle of the river" I was laughing a bit to myself

These old Evinrudes are great when they are in perfect shape, but even a bit of corrosion on any connections and they become total bitches.

Luckily these Kawasaki componets and various aftermarkets, are designed to get wet and not corrode or rust, but they sure are not designed to be wet and run.

it may have fried the charging system, it was weak anyway, but now it's not cranking out anything.....

That's $50....

The rectifier was $86, and I think the stator assembly was over $300 after shipping and duties. Sure hope this solves it, I think my buddy is getting a little sick of this already

I liked grandads old Chrysler outboard, that thing never quit. Dont think he evre did more than just basic maintenance stuff.

I tried to chase one down for him but had no luck. On the upside after I get that installed hes gonna have a brand new ignition and charging system, minus the coils.
