Yes. Back in Jan. It's the picture of the day today on Wikipedia:

Comet McNaught, as seen from Swifts Creek, Victoria, Australia. This non-periodic comet, the brightest in over 40 years, was discovered on August 7, 2006 by British-Australian astronomer Robert H. McNaught. It was first visible in the northern hemisphere, reaching perihelion on January 12, 2007 at a distance of 0.17 AU.
This pic that is linked is at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:C...-_23-01-07.jpg

Just below the pic is a link to the full rez (1600x1067)

If you go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_McNaught

there's the full entry and if you scroll down there are 13 pix of the comet, a few of which are quite extraordinary.

I snapped a picture of Hale-Bopp back in 96 with my mom's new Canon Rebel with a 300mm lens. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, just playing around. But the picture turned out really good, not anything like above but impressive for this amateur not knowing anything about photography. I need to find that and scan it one of these days. We'll be seeing that one again in 4377!
