Who knows RAID array?

So hubby built my pc and set it up with RAID array. The POS RAID keeps crapping out. How can I disable the RAID and just have two harddrives?

Well from what I have heard, it's a bios setting. You have to disable it in the bios and then reblast the system. Is that true? Cuz' I REALLY don't want to reblast this thing again.

Yes, you should be able to diable.

How, depends on how it is setup, hardware or software.

In system BIOS or through whatever software you are using.

2 drives don't make a good array anyway. Unless you just trying to get one contigous volume. But I would have to have a really good motivation to do this and a good backup and restore solution.

Also along that line of thought,do you have a separate RAID controller,or is it a chip on the mother board? What os are you using XP pro,WIN2K......?
There should be a program or utility for controlling the array.
By the way.....Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks(RAID).

Oh dear lord... I see bad things happening in this thread.

Vader, what's an Aktive Durectory? My wife says the AD replication is no correct and wants to start over with a fresh install. Can I do this and still retain all users, rights, groups, and GPO?

A lot of these home computers have the raid controller built onto the motherboard. Once it is enabled there should be an option when your system first boots up to go into the raid utility by pressing some key or combination of keys. This would be separate from going into the BIOS. From there you should be able to remove the raid array. This is how I did it at least on my system at home when I played around with raid arrays.

AD is just a fancy phone book that microsoft is trying to push on everyone.

sometimes i get cunfuzed about it and just hit delete and start over. I do this about once a week. I have given everyone the same user name and password. It makes setup faster.

Freaking Micrsoftoft.

I'm not sure your gonna be able to change too much of the RAID config without ultimately a reload of the OS. If its a RAID 1 (mirror) you could break the mirror and then possibly do something with the other drive. RAID folks, help me out if this is not right.
