I used Thompson's Water Seal on my deck last year. Still seems to be ok so far. Water beads up great.

of course I don't have a deck at all anymore.

My deck is hugely popular. In fact, my neighbor's teenage daughter is here enjoying some '****en's Cider' right now.

Later.

If you decide to stain, just go back to HD and get the five gallon can.
Use it first, and the one gallon cans as needed.
My deck is 20x20 and is railed with two sets of steps.
400 sq foot needed 3 gallons.

You have nearly a 1,000 sq foot.
You'll use the five gal at least and some of what you already bought.
You can return the rest but, it sounds like a six or seven gallon job.

Untreated wood is gonna soak it up like a sponge.

I used the honey colored too, it ages well.

She love's '****en's Cider'; but, she only comes when her hubby is out of town for a few days. She thinks he'd notice that she's been on my big deck otherwise.

Maybe if he trims the bushes around his deck, then it would make his deck look bigger.
