Came home to a DENT!!!

I'm so mad I could chew nails!!!!

I came home from work and find a BIG dent in my driver's side door. Along with a card from the Frankfort Police. I haven't gotten to talk to the officer yet, but I think my neighbor was having some work done at her house and their van backed into my truck
I just finished installing RAAMmat in the door, completely sealing it up. Now my power window makes some helacious noise. But the door still shuts and everything still works.

Will insurance cover the cost of the extra sound insulation I installed? If so, is that something the repair place will put in or me? I loaded the doors up with the RAAMmat. Inner skin, covered all the holes in the door, outer door skin, the WORKS!! CRAP!!!!!

At least there was a police report filed and I won't have to pay anything. I just hope the sound insulation gets paid for, since they'll have to rip it all out.

It's enough to make my PTSD kick off. I need to go shoot something....

Daryl

Insurance is to put things back they way they were before the accident. I'd make sure they know about the mat.

I replied to a similar thread in the SuperCrew section.

Insurance quotes and premiums are generally computed using the vehicle and options on the vehicle at the time of the quote. If you add something else afterwards and fail to tell the insurance company so that they can adjust your premiums accordingly, then you might be S.O.L. Like a previous poster mentioned, at least a note was left.

Hi.

While I concur on principle, how many folks actually do that?

Some of the guys on this forum would be paying enormous premiums if they reported all their improvements....

Cheers
Bubba

Not to mention that some of the mods would make the rig almost uninsurable, like 8" of lift and 37" tires. Or a 700hp engine. Fact is with insurance and mods, its a damned if you do report and damned if you dont report

Very true.

My insurance will cover glass breakage but they won't pay for the aftermarket tint re-install.

Yeah, unless you have it mentioned- Insurance will return your truck to "stock" condition.

If you don't have the addendum (like I had) which covered my wheels & tires too, then you will have to rely on the nicenes of your insurance agent/company- to add any aftermarket items.

When my truck was broken into, they did NOT replace my tint either, and I paid $250 of the $294 dollars it costed to have my window replaced.

A year later, I switched to Progressive- who was cheaper than Farmers. I had a glass claim with Progressive (Vandalism) and one with Farmers (Theft), and this year, Progressive went up by $15/month on my coverage. I asked why, and they stated that the claim for my glass breakage (theft/2005/Farmers) showed up on some report, and they adjusted my insurance, as a predictor of the cost of doign business with me... They didn't replace my $400 Valentine One Radar Detector,(that, according to them) fell under homeowners insurance, to which there was a 1% deductible (1% of the cost of my home). WHen it was all said and done, Farmers $44.00 (I have a $250/deductible on our cars). Proressive, same thing- $250 deductible, Windshield was $300 bucks. I paid $250, they paid $50.

Ain't that a b**ch?! I paid 85% of the cost, both times my glass was broken- and they adjust MY insurance up $15.00/month ($180/year) which more than doubles what Farmers and Progressive spent on me in claims, over the past 16 years...

Man, I tell ya. Life "ain't" fair...

This is why it's important to understand your deductables. If you had to pay 85% of the costs, you shouldn't have reported the theft to your insurance company. You should have just paid it all out of pocket and your rates would not have gone up. You only want to report BIG losses to the insurance company. Just pay the little losses yourself because your rates will go up either way.
