For Kobi

I'm still waiting for my silver/copper hybrid cable but here it is... :drools:

For those that don't know WTF this is... it's the ultimate hifi headphone setup. Granted there are just as many headphones and amps that there are speakers and amps and each has there own subtleties... but you get the drift.

Freakin' sweet!

Please tell me, D, that you didn't spend a ton for headphones, just for your iPod. If they're for general use, then cool. To each their own, I suppose.

First, iPods are capable of sooooo much better sound than you'd think. High quality CD rips, line out cable to top-notch amp & cans... you'd be surprised. Really surprised.

I'll use it on different sources, but mainly it's for the 'pod.

The nano was originally for jogging. Plus it was a great deal on a store-closing sale. They didn't have anything else. 380 songs thus far, half being lossless format (read: 30-50MB per song) and I have a couple gigs left. More than enough for a listening session. I'm going to convert the lossless to 256kbps/VBR and that will get me a ton more space without losing audio quality.

You can reduce the file size with out losing quality????

To say I'm skeptical would be an understament.

To lose file size you have to lose data, yes compression, once it's gone how does it get it back for playback? Then where does it go after played?????

Perception to the ears is rumored to be no loss. If the geeks on a hifi headphone forum say so, I'm going to give it a whirl and report. Was supposed to do it tonight but didn't quite make it.

Hey D, what program are you using to make the Lossless rip? Are you ripping to Apple Lossless?

Yeah, ripping via iTunes and Apple Lossless. Going to set it to use a custom AAC - 256kbpsVBR and redo the lossless files. I figure I'll keep one library with the lossless for archive, then use the AAC for portable use.

On a side note I got in a solid hour and a half of listening before nighty-night time. I gotta say, it even made some of my crappiest 128kbps MP3 downloads sound pretty good.

Knowing AKG quality for mics and their customer service, you did good. I used their lower quality headphones before with sound mixing and was impressed. However, I think I will stick with the crappy mp3s I download with limewire and the $12 headphones from target.
