The Shield... Talk to me-

I have seen one or two episodes, and I can see these guys are in some s**t, but- what am I looking at here?

Are these good cops that have done something stupid?

Kinda good cops/kinda bad cops?

Bad cops doing good things, but also did a bad thing?

Chiklis seems like the quentessential tough-guy cop. What's the deal?

rdnkfam - I couldn't agree more.

This is definitely not a series that you can jump into and get a true feel for the characters or the plot of the show. To jump in now and try to understand what is going on is unfair to you as a viewer. I believe that this is the 6th season, so you have some serious catching up to do.

But, to try to answer your question. They are a group of "effective" officers that cross the line between good and bad every day.

Yeah, I remember a few years ago they were saying "The Shield was the Best show on TV, that no one was watching"... (Probably because it's on FX instead of Fox). Same thing for "The Closer".

I would agree with that statement. But FX is gaining popularity.

they are cutting the edge as far as network programming goes. I have read and heard interviews where actors/actresses are taking pay cuts to be on that station.

They have a killer line-up in my opinion

Nip - Tuck
The Shield
Rescue Me
The Riches (haven't gotten into it yet)
Dirt

Another thing about the Shield is the Captain, who knows that they are crossing the line. But chooses to ignore it to further his career. There is a lot of sub plot in this series.

To sum it up:

Bad Cops who get great results

They are incredibly effective at what they do. But they can be as bad as the people they bust. They have a weird sense of justice and honor and dole out the beat downs according to that code.

If Mackie was your friend, he die, or rather make someone else die to protect you but man I wouldn't cross him.

Great Show.
