What's up with the black plastic mirror caps? I have always seen all '97-'03 F150s with painted mirrors... except the XL.

Are your mirrors aftermarket?

im not sure if there aftermarket im going to have to check now.

 

My 1999 had chrome factory mirror covers...

Yeah I know but his aren't painted to match the truck... they are just plastic. I was just wondering why... I think like the '98-'99 XLTs have chrome caps but the rest of them had painted ones.

Maybe it's a 2002 thing....

 

Your mirrors are a glossy black and match your paint. mine are just a black plastic, its looks the exact same as the plastic used on the radio and some of the trim in my truck.

 

Yeah that's what I was pointing out. Maybe yours is just different.

Thats fine i didnt take any offense to what you said, i never noticed it untill it was mentioned. My brother has a 2001 f150 with the red mirrors to match and two guys down the street all match. There is a guy about 3 miles away from me that has a silver fx4 just like mine ill have to check to see what his mirrors look like.

 

a guy near me has a silver fx4, i drove by today and his mirrors are silver, and at a closer look at my mirrors the passenger side is solid black plastic so it must have been changed and the driverside i trued to pull it off and when it pulled out a little i could see that it had ben painted.
