I like to pass on a good story of dealers when I get a chance, since the sales dudes always get such a bad rap (and usually deserve it)...
Friday afternoon the wife and I were heading back from her small road trip, and I was needing a dash light (one of those stupid little boogers that's part of the plastic base, and cannot be found at any parts store), so I told her I was going to stop at the Honda dealership. Well, there are two around here. The one where she and many members of her family bought their vehicles, and the one closer to us where we bought the Element (which I hate to admit, but I'm warming up to quite nice. My powder coating oven is sitting in the back right now, all cozy and tied down...). Well, I decided to stop at the far one first to give myself two chances to find the bulb I need. I also told the wife I would ask about floor mats, since her car didn't come with any, and no aftermarket ones ever seem to fit right...
So, I get my $3.50 mini bulb... and ask about floor mats. $130 and not in stock, but we chat a bit, and the guy asks, "what happened that you need all new floor mats?" I said we never got any, and he looks a little confused, says "an 03 EX should have had mats. Where did you get the car?" I told him from his dealership. So, he asks me the sales guy's name, and I had no idea. He then says he can give me the mats for $100, but probably couldn't do any better...
So, I head back out to the car, and tell the wife the story. She gives me a strange look then blurts out a name. "that's the guy the sold me the car. He still works here, because I just heard them page him". So, I go back to parts, and tell the guy what my wife said. He says the guy still works there, but is next door at their Accura store. probably nothing he can do, but go talk to him. So, I do...
He was an older gentleman, probably in his 60's. Seemed like a really nice guy. He says he can't remember the details on the car, but recognizes wife, and selling her the Civic. I explained that we never got any floor mats, and my conversation with the parts guy. He says I'm not sure what we can do, but I'll be right back. We waited about 15 minutes thinking he was just going to blow us off, and not come back...
Well, he came back asked for a number where we could be reached when our new full set of floor mats came in. Said he was sorry about the situation.
So, long story short... after 4-1/2 years the salesman that sold my wife her car finally gave us the floor mats... nice new factory ones too...
