I know there are several, but if you're traveling, you probably stayed at the Embassy Suites on I-35. Great spot, pretty much in the center of everything. You're right, San Antonio is wide open. My cousin lives down there. It's as big as Dallas, but Dallas is far more "city" than San Antonio, and far less centralized. There's a lot of redundancy up here- don't have to ride far to get to anything, or zoo is a joke, and we don't have a Sea World either.

In Texas, we do have tons of trees & greenery in Texas, anywhere east of, say, Abilene, TX. You were just starting to get into the beautiful parts of Texas. Next time you're in teh Austin/San Antonio area, you guys should take highway 281 up to Lampasas (From SA). In the Marble Falls area, the scenery is absolutely beautiful. The whole trip is quite scenic.

Taking 190 West from Belton into Killeen, there's an awesome view of the valley that Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville rests in.

When you grow up in this area- you kinda take all the trees, greenery, and sceneery for granted. But, after living in Arizona for 2 years (everything was a varying shade of brown), coming back to Texas/Louisiana was great.

Arizona was nice too- it's just a different kind of nice. I truly enjoyed seeing all the mountains.

If you love to shop and eat, then Dallas is where you want to be. Shopping here is 2nd only to New York City. A whole lot of everything.

It's humid too, not Houston-Humid, but still quite muggy in the summer. But, if you come this way in say, mid to late September through October, you'll really enjoy it, and the weather will be super nice too. Anything after that is a coin toss- it coudl be cold, or nice. Anything before that(May 15th - September 15th), I can prety much guarantee you heat and humidity that will make "dry heat" feel like an air conditioner.

Traffic in Dallas can be (OK, it is) a PITA. A trip you made yesterday that only took 6 minutes, may take 45 tomorrow. You never know.

But, I do know this.

After being stuck in New York, LA, and Bay Area traffic- it's hard to complain about Dallas anymore.

I've been stuck royally on 101 Freeway outside of LA, heading up to Port Hueneme, been Stuck trying to get across the Verrazano, on our way to Manhattan, and still stuck, and in a bumper to bumper jam fron Vallejo, CA right on into Oakland. Actually, that started slowign down right outsede of Sacramento... (And just think, some folks make that commute from Sac to the Bay, daily). The distance isn't bad, but the roads aren't wide enough to accomodate the amount of traffic.

PS: Any California's may be able to co-sign for this. On that same freeway (Northbound) I had no idea cows were as sure-footed as mountain goats, but taking 80 out of the Bay Area up to Sacramento, there's a huge hill to the west of the interstate. They actually have cows grazing on this thing, and it's almost straight up. It's a very steep hill/mini-mountian, that I'm not sure I coudl easily traverse with two legs, and clear view of my feet. But, the cows were up there, and coming down from there- grazing...

That was something most folks don't get to see every day.

If you thought Texas had a lot of cows, you need to take I-5 up from LA to the Bay. If that ranch we passed didn't have 20,000 - 30,000 heads out there, it didn't have any.

the only reason Texas hasn't slid off into the Gulf of Mexico, is because Oklahoma sucks.

How to find Nebraska? Starting from I-80, head West until you can smell s**t. Once you can smell it, you are in Iowa.

Take the southwest 80 fork, and continue.

Once you step into some sh*t, you'll know for sure, you are in Nebraska.

DT, awesome pics!

I love tropical hibiscus. I have six of them in containers. They remind me of the Texas coast, Port Aransas in particular. We stay down there at the Port Royal condo almost every year during the summer and they have some old but beautiful hibiscus.

Not quite, Nebraska is just really windy, mainly b/c Iowa sucks, and Colorado blows... So, the smells really vary.

Is it just me or do people in texas seem REALLY proud to be Texans? I love that attitude.

As the saying goes,
DONT F#@% WITH TEXAS

Two guys are driving through Texas when they get pulled over by a state trooper.

The trooper walks up, taps on the window with his nightstick, the driver rolls down the window, and the trooper smacks him in the head with the stick. The driver says, "Why'd you do that?

The trooper says, "You're in Texas, son. When I pull you over, you'll have your license ready."

Driver says, "I'm sorry, officer, I'm not from around here."

The trooper runs a check on the guy's license, and he's clean.

He gives the guy his license back and walks around to the passenger side and taps on the window. The passenger rolls his window down, and the trooper smacks him with the nightstick.

The passenger says, "What'd you do that for?"

The cop says, "Just making your wishes come true."

The passenger says, "Huh?"

The cop says, "I know that two miles down the road you're gonna say, "I wish that sucker would've tried that stuff with me!"
