Is it Prime-Time?
Is it Prime-Time?

Is it the prime time of the year to get the most trade in $$ ?
That's what ive been asking myself lately.
Ever since before i got my F150, i have been looking into getting a 4-Door Toyota Tacoma. They look sporty, sharp, and all around tough. With their 245hp V6, I read on various Toyota Tacoma forums of people averaging anywhere between 17-23 MPG in the doublecab shortbed in city and highway driving. I'm averaging around 15-16 mpg. That is definitly one of the major factors in the reason I have been looking at these trucks. Aside from great looks and good gas mileage, the prices on these trucks I feel is good. Not to mention i feel the interior is pretty nice, unlike the ****ty Tundra interior.
Now I'm not writing this thread to bash the F150 and praise the Tacoma. Don't get me wrong, i love my F150, but my gas mileage is not what it once was, the transmission is starting to feel funky, and i only have 3000 more miles on my warranty.
Since before the lease on my F150 was started, and still to present day, Toyota's lease deals are a joke. They have almost identical numbers on all their vehicles. $200-300 a month with $2000+ down. All i ever remember seeing on Tacomas were $299 a month with $2199 down. I understand they don't need to give deals on Tacomas because they sell them so well, but all of a sudden today i do my random spontaneous check to www.buyatoyota.com , and find a lease special on the Tacoma for $199 a month for 36 months, $2199 due at signing minus tax, title, registration, and license fees. This is easily the best deal i have ever seen on Tacomas and right now im ready to start making some phone calls.
But onto the main reason i started this post for. At this point in the year/seasons, will i get the most for my trade-in? Back in winter Edmunds.com and dealers were telling me $18,000-$19,000 , and my local dealers were selling 2005 F150s like mine for prices in that range. I check my local dealer's inventory for 2005 F150s with the same mileage as me and theyre now going for $23,000-$24,000. Is this the high-point in the year as far as pickup sales and getting the most for your trade-in? According to Ford i still owe $21,000 on my lease (i didnt add all the numbers up so im not gonna argue it or anything ). Would it be smart to act now and try to talk to other dealers to get out of my lease/red carpet option or will pickups sell/trade in for even more another time in the year?
If you read all this, Thanks!

Hell, my Lincoln dealer gave me 18K for my 3 year old 56,000-drove-like-an-indy-car-miles truck a month ago. That sealed the deal for my MKX. 18K on a trade in? Say what?! New vehicle and a bunch of cash in my pocket. Awesome.
A couple years back, when I was searching the Buffalo papers for a year and a half waiting for the right truck/procrastinating, I noticed that prices were generally higher before winter hit. However, this is a good time for a lot of people now that tax returns are back, so you might want to start fishing now.
And good luck with the Toyota. I love the quality/performance, but I couldn't even get out of the Tundra without smacking my head at the autoshow this year. Looks like the next one will be between Ford and Nissan for me, and considering I've done more repairs on this one Ford than my family has done on the 12 Nissans we've had (I'm dead serious), I'm leaning towards Nissan....but if I can afford the repairs, I'll probably stick with Ford

I love Tacomas. They are my favorite small truck (Dodge Dakota is a close second, but I really like Tacomas).
But I would rather have the truck you already have.

i have no intention on keeping my vehicles for more than 3 years, so i lease them. As do my brother, sister, and dad, its what we do.
Ive made some phone calls so far, but nothing very deep yet.

the only thing you kept pushing was something equivalent to a steaming **** pile, aka a tundra.
tacomas are a completely different animal, in my opinion the 2nd best import vehicle on the road, next to the titan.
i just hope if i get it , i can get what some of my friends with tacomas are gettin with 20+ mpg. often 18-19 but in summer averaging 20 mpg.

Alot of folks around here have made the switch from F150 to Tacoma. Including a few of my uncles.
I do like the big brother Tundra better though.
