Well rebuilt one at autozone

Unit Price: $199.99
*Core Value: $82.00
Total Price: $281.99

So you'd pay about $199.99 + tax, after you took your back in.

Never done one on that paticular car but cant imagine it taking more than an hour to change, longest I've ever taken ot change one was on a Dodge caravan. took me 25 mins....... but lets say an hour for poops and grins..... Are you willing to pay someone $265 an hour to do it for you?

I had a Grand Prix GTP a few years back. I loved the car, but after 2 alternators I found something else.

The dealership wanted $500 to swap alternators. I nearly swallowed my tongue, even though I knew how to change the alternator (that was the only reason I was asking the dealer). You had to remove the passenger side tire, drop the engine cradle, and pull a couple bolts with about enough room for 1/64 turn from a wrench. Then pull really hard to get the alternator out, but it only cost me around $75 and 3 hours the first time. The second time (alternator replaced under warranty less than a year later) I dropped the cradle too far and separated the steering column. It only took about an 1.5 hours to replace the alternator, but another 30 minutes to find the right angle to squeeze my arms up into the compartment to restab the column only to find out my buddy had spuuuuuunnnn the steering wheel several times while disconnected, breaking the clock spring, and leaving the air bag light on till I got rid of the car...

Not sure where the alternator is on an Altima, but I can't imagine it being too hard to replace unless its under the engine like the GTP was...

I've attempted to do the GTP alternator and power steering pump before... Never again will I work on a GTP.

Borrow your pair from the wife, go down to the parts store, buy an alternator, and back to the garage with you.
