Red face Kind of funny...

Went to wal mart to have a copy of my key made. The guy poked my key into a hole to test for a theft chip. Couple lights lit up. He asked me what vehicle it goes to, "F150". He then proceded to make a copy. I get home and later that evening (by the way I was not driving the truck at that time ) it is time for me to go to work. So I take the copy and go to the truck and I'm sure you know what happens next. But I assume my truck is out of gas and I have my wife take me to work. The following day I try the other key and starts right up. Stinkin wal mart! Well at least now I have a key to open my truck in case I lock my keys inside. LOL!

I am not sure exactly the details, but if you have the right key and it is just not programmed, there is a procedure to follow to program the key.

I was trying to let him know that if he bought the right kind of key, he should be able to program it himself.

You can't get the chipped keys from Wally World. They just give you the normal plain keys... I used to keep one in my wallet for if I ever would lock my chipped key in the truck, I could get back in.

Look in your manual for PATS. It should give you more information.

I still carry a wal-mart key in my wallet to open the doors incase I lock my keys in or just need in and don't have my keys with me.

But yea walmart does not, can not, make or sell a functional ignition key. You must go to the dealer and I belive they start at $70 last time I checked.

True... Although he made me keys for my F-250 (no chip) for free. And they're the matching Ford kind.

$75? I paid $23 at my dealer for the key and to have it cut. I programmed it myself in about 15 seconds before I left the dealers lot and I dont know anyone at the dealer. Why are some dealers charging so much? Also, cant you buy the keys for like $15 or less on ebay?

This is true. I picked mine up for $17 shipped about 4 months ago, Ford packaging and everything. Although I haven't even cut it yet as I'm planning on getting a different truck this summer. Cheap bastard, I know!

If you have two or more PATS keys, then you can program it yourself. But, for those of us who were lucky enough to only get one key with our truck, or lose the only other copy of the key, then you've gotta pay up.
