house addition and septic/update

anyone know off hand how close to a drainfield septic (no mound) can i put a slab on for a small addition? the one house we have in mind is only 1100sq ft. and the basement isn't totally open for a nice family room. was thinking of doing an addition for maybe a half bath, a small bedroom and family room possibly. i can see the septic pipe in the ground....so.....anyone? i am in pa by the way. house near blue mountian ski area. nice area and huge oversized 2 car garage on one level and underneath is a 3rd area for whatever....

***UPDATE***
just looked at house again and the actual septic tank and cleanout are at least 50-75 ft or more away from the area we would like to put addition. the pipe that is in question seems to be a pvc breather pipe. it has small holes towards the top of the pipe with a cap on top. i would think this could be moved over??? getting close to doing offer. now to look into a little moisture in the basement......

It depends on your area. Every town, county, and or state will have a different regulation.

Here in NY the tank needs to be a minimum of 10' away from the foundation and the leach line is a minimum of 20' away. As mentioned, each area may have its own requirements so it would be advisable to check with the local authorities to saee what is required.

Contact the local health district who is usually in charge of waste. You have to also be concerned that the tank and fields can handle the addition of wastes. Local regs determine minimum size of tanks and fields for bedrooms/bathrooms. Sometimes a new addition can mean a new engineered septic system = 30k!
