It's an old folk remedy that I'm sure has caused several trips to a hospital and probably a few deaths as well.

Pretty much anytime the subject matter of poison ivy comes up, somebody throws that out there.

I've heard a whole lot of people say it but don't know a single person that has actually tried it themselves. It's always "I know this guy that said he tried it and.......". Yeah, right.

There may be some incidental merit to it but I can asure you that it's not as simple as just eating a few leaves and everything will be fine.

If it causes a rash on your arm, what makes you think it won't do the same to your lips, tongue, mouth, throat, final exit point, etc.?

I have a superior immune system to that of the human race. Poison ivy plants bow to me. I can sleep with Pamela Anderson in a bed of poison ivy in the back 40 of my beet farm and not contract poison ivy, syphyllis, or a sunburn.

I don't know who you are or who you think you are but, use of my image and especially my signature is treading upon not only a sacred but treacherous and slippery slope. If I have to warn you again you can consider it a final warning. Make me repeat myself at your own peril.

When I was a kid, the doctor prescribed Poison Ivy Extract as a cure and it worked very well for me. It came in a bottle with a dropper and looked like murky nose drops. You put a couple of drops in a glass of water and drank it. Had to be refrigerated, and for years I had the bottle in the refrigerator, just waiting till summer, when I would need it. Don't know why, but it is no longer available. If the streoid pack did not work for me, I would try the leaves.

If I look at poison ivy I get it so during the summer months, I will have the rash on me 4 to 5 times. The best method of getting rid of poison ivy I have ever used is an old military remedy. Take some sand paper and completely sand of the skin that has the poison ivy rash on to it (so sand off the ivy rash). Then take some bleach, rubbing alcohol works too, and pour it over the "new skin." This will completely get rid of the poison ivy. This method is not recommended for those who don't like to "sand paper off" layers of skin though

BTW, I am 100% serious about this method...I use it several times a year

I second this method..sounds painful and it does hurt some but the bleach will dry the poison ivy right up and the itchiong goes away fast

There are no cures but a product called Tecnu is good for prevention.

1) drop the pills, they never do right
2) gold bond, usually works... or... they gave me a cream for my psoriosis called Toporal or something... it might be a prescription medicine though

They also gave them Agent Orange. Don't trust 'em, never will.
