gas mileage

I have a 05 F-150 4x4 with the 4.6, is there anything i can do to the truck to increase mpg? It is stock now, but am thinking about adding a lift and bigger rims and tires, about howmuch does this effect mpg? thinking of adding 6" lift 20" rims with maybe 35" tires. All opinions appreciated.

Trade or sell for a car.

If mpgs concern you, the last thing you want to do is lift and bigger tires.

6" lift and 35's will drop your mileage another 3mpg!

Things to increase gas mileage:

Accelerate slowly
Electric Fans
Exhaust(magnaflow)
Intake
Programmer
Tune

I'm really not sure why Ford even offers the 4.6 in these trucks. It seems like they are the worst for mileage. My 5.4 gets about what sticker said it would when I drive "calmly", and that's all I can hope for.

Before you go doing anything radical for an improvement for MPG, take the cost of those mods and compare it to what you are going to spend for gas over a period of time and miles, and make sure you're not just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I'd do the mods out of wanting the performance boost, and not to better MPG.

Thumbs up Edge Evo did it for me...

I bought the Edge Evolution and since I have had it my mpg's have greatly improved. I used to get 10-12 mpg no matter what; now I average 13-15 combined driving and 17-18 hwy and I got my numbers from calculations not the tuner.

bshipley78- Why do you have your oil and oil filter listed in your mods?

How many post have you seen that asked "what brand of oil and filter do you use"? It's there as an informative piece so people don't ask me, I guess it doesn't work...

I'm happy with the mileage I'm getting with my 4.6

but what I want to know is how the nascar guys get the mileage they get while doing 180 or better, watching the race today they said a lot of the cars were good to go the rest of the race when there were 52 laps left, which on Talladega is over 100 miles, and they only have 18 gallon tanks.

Very good aerodynamics, smooth surfaces and insanely high final drive ratios.

That's like 5.5 miles per gallon man.

they are geared super high. back to 4.6, i hate the performance it gives me (plan on doing swap with 4v 5.4 navigator motor in a few years), but i love the fuel mileage, ive gotten 23.7 mpg on a 4 hour drive @ 55 mph with cruise on 9/10 of the time. ive got 3.33 gears, fiberglass bed cover (doesnt help because of weight, took me and a friend to lift it and put it on and i was still struggling) and near bone stock motor besides a dual fm40 with no cats. 275/65/17 at that time, now 265/70/17's and no difference (tire was only .2" bigger and got a better deal.)

Im not sure what I am doing but I got 14mpg last tank!!! I was uber exicted (I usally see about 11mpg). Now with my true dual straight pipes it will probably drop cause the noise it makes me feel good inside.
