Magazine scam
Magazine scam
I am super pissed off right now.
About 3 months ago, I bought a CD with my debit card at F.Y.E. in the mall. When I was checking out, the lady behind the register said the store was running a promotion: I could have three magazines of my choice, for free, with my CD purchase. Of course, my first reaction was, yeah okay that's bullsh*t. Nothing is free. But she handed me a small poster with pictures of six different magazine covers on it. She told me I could pick three. Being a logical thinker, I checked for small print. There was no small print, just the magazines. I told her I was not interested, but my friend that was with me said she wanted them. I said okay and waited while she picked her three magazines. The day ended like any other day.
So I was looking at my bank account online tonight, and there was a charge for $24.95 that I didn't remember making. I inquired as to where the purchase was made and my bank said a magazine subscription in NY. I immediately thought of that day in the music store.
After much googling and many phone calls, I found this:

Apparently there is a scam going around. I am not the only victim. Apparently I ordered 38 issues of Entertainment Weekly (they used the debit card information from my CD purchase). If this happens to you, visit the above link. I called the number and after much arguing, they said they would cancel my subscription, replace the money in my account, and send me three free magazines as a token of goodwill.
I told them I didn't want the friggin' magazines.

I used my credit card at best buy for something and ended up with THREE Monthly subscirptions to AOL without my permission. It cost me many hours and hundreds of dollars to stop it. I actually cancelled my card and they continued to bill it! I use road runner, never had dial up! I will only use cash now at "Best Buy" so they cant screw me. Only buy there if I have to.
