Round 3 (Tornado Warnings)
Round 3 (Tornado Warnings)
March 29, 2007
This is the storm they said might cause a tornado outbreak.
it did in New Mexico, but- only 40 people live there.
We got heavy rain, quarter sized hail, and some CRAZY looking clouds.
There were also 1-2 tornadoes around the DFW Metro.

I didn't get to take snaps of the REAL heavy storm that came throgh on Friday April, 13th.
That one dropped SOFTBALL sized hail on many cities in the DFW metro.
That was the worse I had seen. Pitch black sky at 5:45 PM, in April.
2-3 tornado touchdowns. (Haltom City, and another place)
But this bad boy... It's been looking like dusk since 1:00 PM, and the weather channel is predicting another tornado outbreak. (Hopefully nothing like the outbreak & super outbreak from decades ago)
This storm line extends from Kansas down to Texas, and on over into Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri.
As Darth Vader would say "Impressive. Most impressive."
April 24, 2007

As long as no tornadoes touch down, and we don't get the golf ball, baseball, and softball sized hail- I'll take the rain and cooler temps.
Livign in Texas the last 14 years, I knwo this: We are about 45-60 days away from this everyday until mid/late September:

See all reported tornado outbreaks

Hersh...wanna be a GREAT buddy and see if you can get some pics of the cloud formations?
I know when I get home, I will be outside looking at the sky trying to find that perfect picture.
I know last time it was REAL bad. I took pics of the radar on the TV. It was insane.
Whatever you do, be safe.

Before I kick the bucket, I want to see a wall cloud like this with my own eyes:

For real, though, that's a terrible storm, here in VA, we got the remnants of the storm that you had on Friday the 13th, that weekend we got some seriously bad freakin' rain and wind...VDOT worked 12 hours shifts the following week trying to clear roads and patch up places, even some of the interstates had lanes sliding off...
Like was already said, be safe!
I started school as a meteorology major -- got a little ways in to it and realized that my dream of being in Norman, OK was probably a bit far-fetched considering the path of education that I was going to have to go down to get there.
Like you guys, I've always thought it'd be wicked to be 'in the heart' of a severe outbreak and be able to see the formation and sheer power but, on the flip side of that coin, after seeing what a F4 did to my grandmother's neighborhood, I'll retract that I ever want to see anything like that happening. It was scary seeing it on the ground with the sun out the day after -- I can't imagine being anywhere near it when it was all going down.
Additionally, I have personally seen softball-sized hail... it's a miracle that it doesn't kill people every time that it happens. That's some scary stuff too.
Mother Nature can REALLY show off when she wants to...

May I ask what that path of education was like? How many years would one have to go to school to major in that?

I thought that (Apr. 13th) was the worse I'd seen it look outside, until yesterday... It was so dark, the street and parking lot lights came on at 3:00 PM. Sorry, it was too dark to get any pictures.
I, like many of you, have had dreams of being a storm chaser, or a meteorologist, but didn't choose that path, education wise. But, I would LOVE to see a wall cloud in my life. Perhaps not over my city, but- I would like to see it. Like that guy says on the web site. It looks like one of those ships from Independence Day.
LOL- That's funny Kobi! LOL, at one point (OK several points) in my life, I wanted to be a weather man.
I have GOT to learn to use photoshop.
