I am going to break out my favorite four letter word ----- “Scam!” It probably is going to help a little keep a few people from blowing through a stop light, but those who do it on purpose will do it anyway.

I live in a large city so I see so many people who blatantly break the law with no regard to others around them. People who use the turn lane as their own personal ‘passing lane’, cut through parking lots to miss a stop light. In general, people are getting more rude and inconsiderate. I could go on and on.

Sorry, didn’t intend to hijack this thread, but my though is that most people are honest and law abiding, but there are those who purposely break the law and get away with it. Most of those caught by the cameras are probably not the ones you need to get off the street.

Huh? Be a fool?

What I am saying is that the politicians promise it goes to schooling and no profits are made but they just take the extra money being made out of the school budget and spend it elsewhere.

I don't doubt your account, I just hope people don't believe that these things don't produce a "profit" for the government.

Well, in this particular case, the fine for running a red is 50 bucks, for the first 95 tickets, the company, RedFlex, out of Arizona, makes 40 bucks per ticket. After the first 95 tickets each month, they split the money 50/50 with the city. This is not a huge city, it's Kingsport, TN, and during the first two weeks of this program, the city recorded 2,047 red light violations at 6 intersections. If this isn't a money racket, I don't know what is!

Unhappy

Some hot rod mags have a spray you can use to block the plate( kinda like trying to take a digital pic of your childrens school photo proofs-GLARE!!) and there is also a clear plate cover that some say works.P.S. if someone else borrows your ride guess who recieves the ticket in the mail???REVENUE-REVENUE-REVENUE,,next there'll be heat sensitive cameras giving tickets for global warming violations.

Here in America you have the right to face your accuser. so with a camera you have no accuser just a machine.

I say they are BS, If there is a problem area then the police presence should be increased there.

We don't want this country turning the way England has gone. there are cameras everywhere infringing on everyones privacy.

Thats why I asked to explain. I thought you were saying I was full of it. My mistake

The issue here was the profit wasnt going to the gov, the private camera operators were taking it. That is why it was unconstitutional. IF the gov got it then I am sure they(cameras) would still be here.
That is something I didnt make clear. That the cameras were operated by private company.

We have them at almost every intersection.

Anytime I see someone run a light now, I'm thinking... They must be from out of town. You can't miss them. Most of the ones in town require the operator to review the footage, and write tickets accordingly. A few others are automated, and when they ar triggered, you even see the flash.

Ba-da-dum-dum-dum, Another one bites the dust...

Try having them when your roads are covered in ice and packed snow for 4 months a year.
Calgary, Alberta gets it's fair share of that. Maybe only three months but that's enough.

I have mixed feelings about them. They're all over Houston, and although they are a bit 'big brother', the 1st time a vette almost creamed me cause he ran a red light, I was instantly glad they were there. The first week they were up there was an article in the houston chronicle about how they expected to make 5 million a year off them, but apparently the same people keep running them so the estimate was hiked up to $30 million a year.

There are a few starting to pop up in my area. I love them as long as they keep 4 to 5 jackholes from shooting through a turn after the light has flipped. If your not doing anything wrong you can't be caught.

But, I have found that in many places; if you contest the ticket, it is thrown out. Most courts don't want to deal with all of the issues. Those being the very things you mentioned.
This couldn't be farther from the truth. In most traffic camera studies, these POS's were shown to INCREASE intersection accidents. Think about it, you're cruising along & you approach the intersection. The light turns yellow & you see the camera. Not wanting to donate to the local traffic extorsion funds, you hit the brakes. BAM!!! You get rear-ended. Intersection camera's are dangerous. Their ONLY function is revune generation for townships.

KC-10 FE out...
