Do you trust a service lube?

Lucky for you it have'nt stock somewhere the belt or fan or damaged any of your electrical wires and radiators. I just saw one when he pulls-out his car after the next block his oil filter fells of and oil spreads out.
The last time I went to a Jiffy Lube was in 1992. The tech tried to tell me my Explorer was a quart low in transmission fluid. I told him that if the transmission was a quart low, I'll take it back to the dealer as it must have a serious leak. He just walked away.
The manager of the lube place I take mine to now told me he gets about 50-60% of his business from former Jiffy Lube customers that had gotten riped off before.

Here's how the goons down at Jiffy Lube put the air filter back in my wife's old daily driver Pontiac Sunfire one time:

So to answer your question -- no, I don't trust "service lubes"........

Yes and no.
In the past I would have said NO, but I do now. I'll explain.
Back when I had my first Lightning . . .

I was eating lunch at a Baja Fresh. Next door was an EZLube. While I was eating, one of the kids who works at the EZLube had come over and was checking out my truck. I finished and went out and he was still there, checking it out. And we started talking about the L. The kid knew everything about the Lightning and was just totally into it. Nice kid too, polite.
Anyway, about a month later it was time for an oil change. EZLube uses Mobil1, which is what I put in the Lightning, so I decided to go to the EZLube. Sure enough, that kid was working (he was the Assistant Mgr.) and needless to say, my truck got the best of care and every detail was paid attention to. That kid showed me around the facility, even took me down into the pit (spotless) and showed me how they do everything. From that moment on, they had my business. Now granted, that may be the excption to the rule, what with someone having such respect for the kind of vehicle I had so naturally they would do an amazing job and miss nothing and make sure it was done right . . . but even after that kid left, I kept taking my L there, and when I had my second Lightning I took it to EZLube.
Years later at a different EZLube, I now take my Lexus and have them use Mobil1. This one is a different facility, it's not that kid anymore so I watch them like a hawk, but I have have never seen them do anything other than be perfect. All the empolyees are always professional, courteous, and always do a great job.
So yeah, I go to EZLube, have for a number of years now, and never had a bad experience. Plus . . . Mobil1.
It's all good.

Alot of the cars that come into the dealership had their oil changed last at a quick lube place. They have dangerously low amounts of oil and some of the above problems. Quick lube places chalk the amounts of oil somewhere in the engine bay, those are always wrong. Sometimes 1.5 qaurts low, everytime I see one of those I quickly clean it off with brake cleaner.
So yea, the dealership may cost more and take longer, but is probably the best place to take your vehicle.

I'll keep taking mine to the dealer until my warranty expires.. $24 for oil, filter and tire rotation and if anything's screwed up it's on them.. plus I get to wander around the lot for 45 minutes checking stuff out.. lol..

Thats pathetic. Heck, it would almost be more of a PITA to fold it like there and shove it in than just drop it in there like it supposed to be.
I never have and never will take my vehicles to one. Any maintenance, and most repairs, are done by me. If its something huge that I dont have the time or tools for, or dont want to mess with, I take it to a private mechanic who has done business with our family for a long, long time, and always treats us good and does the job right.
Nope, fleet serviced right here in the driveway. I don't even go back to the stealership for a free yearly PA inspection on the diesel that they through in the deal.
Theres a local guy who lets ya stand right in the bay while gettin the inspection so thats where I spend the money.
