I Test Drove a Tundra.....
I have yet to drive the new Tundra but I did drive the older Tundra quite often a few years back. A friend of mine had one before I got my truck and we used it to haul the typical crap that I now haul in my truck. I must say I was never dissatisfied with its performance even back then. I thought it had enough power for a truck of its size and I am anxious to drive one of these new ones. Although I will most likely get rid of my truck this summer and back into an SUV, I would still like to see how the performance is on the new truck. Good review Mag

Cool.
If you can get some pics of the interior, I'd be in debt to you.

month or so ago i spent an entire afternoon hopping around dealers to check out the new tundras, silvys, and superduties, didnt test drive em but finally being able to see em in person after all this talk made it a very enjoyable day.
itll def be worth your time

An engineer should not be prone to information overload. Nor should the mindset need to 'kick-in'. Excitement, maybe?
If this was to be an objective review, your affectation with "gizmos, buttons, ***** and switches" wasn't necessary.
I'll forgive you the absence of a tranny shifting observation; I probably would have a difficult time not playing with those paddles myself lol.
The driveshaft's metallurgy - sales folks are my last source for facts.
The tranny fill - there is likely going to be a fill point somewhere on there - how's it get filled & checked on the assembly line in the first place?
E for effort.
Don't worry - no panties to wad here, I'm a guy... some of you others, though... well, I can see the need for that warning. LOL.
fyi - remember that spellcheck does nothing for your grammar.... ;-))

When I gave it gas then it moved forward and when I hit the brake pedal at 35 mph then it stoped before I reached the stop sign, if that helps any.

I'd say go test drive one, it's not a bad experince at all. We could all test drive the exact same truck and notice different things.
The shifts were smooth I can tell you that, excpet when you accidentally drop to first at 35mph....
I dont know how hard it shifts if you get in it at all.I work my trucks so I cant tell anything really as far as drive train in a 15 min test drive, that is why I always test drive over night or sometimes over a weekend. I'd love for them to set it up for me and let me drive it for a week with no strings attached to run it though it's courses. If they'd slap a 5th wheel and a goosneck hitch in it and let me drag my travel trailer or boats or cattle trailers around for a week. Throug hthe fields and down the highway. Then I could evaluate the drive train, other wise it is just a guess with no information to back it up.
Edited to add:
I know they do market on the taller and thicker brake rotors with 4 piston calibers on all 4 corners, but with out slamming them on at various speeds with and with out a various loads or driving on ice, then I cant tell you if that just makes the ABS work harder or if they really are able to get that friction to the ground.

I love car shoping, I spent 2 months test driving 3-4 trucks a week before I bought this truck. Partly just because I love the hunt of it and partly because I had a different ride every other day for 2 months, why buy?

I was rolling n every full size truck that caught my eye. Then I sat in this one and had to have it. I got to see this one before it was cleaned and detailed so I knew the engine and trans was leak less and it had the feel I was wanting.
Yesterday when I took the Tundra out I spent 2 hours there, it was nice sunny and 75º outside. I didnt even realize how long I'd been there til my phone rang, it's extremely odd for my phone to go that long with out ringing.

Nice review, I'm still gonna throw up in my mouth when I see one.

Dude....
A few years ago one of my buddies had a contest similar at work only it was teams.
Which ever team could lose the most weight collectively over a specified time was the winners....
His team, they decided to gorge them selfs for the week or two prior to have more weight to lose.... They were eating HUGE meals 5-6 times a day and snacking in between. This was a serious gain weight diet.
The day before the first weigh in, my firend got sick becsaue his body wasnt use to this gorging. He lost 14 lbs in one sitting the day before the first weigh in, yea... he took a 14 lb crap!!!!
I test drove the Tundra on Wednesday. I had to take 4 hours off work for an interview and then they called to postpone it so I had half of a nice sunny day to do whatever, I wasn't going back to work, so I decided to test drive it.
I wont give to much of an opinion on it but it did have some decent power, it only felt like slightly more than my 05 with the Edge though.
Some of the interior looked really nice and other parts looked too plasticy, like where the shifter was vs. the doors. Shifter area good, doors bad. Some radio buttons were too far away for my liking, maybe I just have short arms.
I really like the 'manual' shift option. It beeped at me when I decided it would be fun to downshift at high RPM and wouldn't let me do it which is good, I can see many a people who never drove stick destroying their engines or acidentally bumping it since you don't have to move it far and there's no clutch you need to depress.
Breaks seemed touchy compaired to my truck but I got used to it quick, it may just be a new brake thing because my truck did the same the first time I drove it. I never tried slamming on the brakes but I did floor it a few times and scared the crap out of the salesperson. She even told me that I'd have to pay for any speeding tickets I have.

Just alittle bit of inside information for you on the new Tundra. I am an appretice tech for a toyota dealership(which is why i drive a ford). Any of you thinking of purcashing a new 5.7L Tundra you might like to know that some of engines are having some serious problems. One of the major problems is that the cams are turning into shrapnel inside of the engines and are causing them to pretty much implode. And another problem is the engines just simply die. So far we have had 2 new 5.7L tundras come into the shop on the back of tow trucks. One of them only had 273miles on its odometer! And the owners of both of the trucks said that while they were driving them the engines just quit running with out any signs of trouble or warnings.

well you will make the kool aid drinkers happy with that "inside info"

every first year production vehicle has bugs. no matter what make/model. you should have been in the 2004-2007 section when it first came out. lots of vibration and steering wheel nibble problems. my buddies 04 f150 stalled out on him all the time too. took 2 months for ford to figure out the problem.
i have no idea why this forum cares about the tundra so much.
