Anyone have an Escape Hybrid?

My wife is in the market for something new. She was looking into a Toyota Highlander hybrid or a Ford Escape hybrid. I was curious if anyone has owned or knows of anyone who has owned an Escape hybrid?

I don't own one, but I work on them. So far, they've been excellent vehicles. The ones in my neck of the woods have only been in for maintenance.

My buddy owns one and loves it. Great interior room, solid MPG's and no issues so far. He really racks up the miles, too. Plus, I'm sure it was built with union pride.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Upper 20s/low 30s. Not great... heck not even worth the premium you pay for the vehicle. However my buddy drives a TON of freeway, and that kills the hybrid. Hybrids only make sense for city dwellers that go stop light to stop light.

Is it me....or isn't there another Escape thread in GD right now? I seem to recall it was something about recalls.

Sorry, I just saw a little bit of irony.

The owners I've talked to report low-mid 30s on average. It really shines around town in stop and go traffic, where it'll stay in electric mode more often. The hybrid part is offset kinda if you do lots of highway driving, since the electric motor doesn't run above speeds of 30 mph or so.

My parents have had a Hybrid Mariner for alittle over a year. They were disappointed that it *only* got 26 mpg on the way to Florida. Once there, however, they average 36mpg.

Oh, and the hybrids are the only Mariners NOT affected by that recall. They don't have an ABS module to have a bad connector on.
