Sounds like you haven't learned much from the experience. Maybe you will at some point. Last Saturday night, I responded to an auto accident. Driver that caused the accident was legally drunk, and it wasn't her first rodeo with impaired driving. Drunken driver killed a DESIGNATED DRIVER in the other vehicle, dead on the scene. His passenger is on life support fighting for his life in the trauma center. Maybe you being arrested saved someone's life that day or night. Go hump that, as*hole.

You're right, anyone who doesn't take a DUI seriously is a **** up!
Come on, you've been legal to drink for less than a year and you already blew it.
As for only 2 beers... I'm only 150lbs and I drank 3 8-10% beers (NC has a 15% limit
) at my local bar a few months ago, went to drive home, forgot to turn on my headlights (stupid well light downtown, and well, stupid me too) and got pulled. This was 500' from the bar. I only blew a 0.07.... Take that info however you want.

Well none of us were actually there. When he said he got a DUI, everyone, including myself, assumed the worst. We all assumed that he was wasted and driving anyway... when in reality he just had two beers with dinner, according to him. Now, my first reaction was like many of yours: you break the law and you pay the consequences. I also have no sympathy for people like this. This man, however, made an unwise choice that many people make on a daily basis and he probably regrets it now. I don't feel any anger towards him, and I agree that his punishment should have been less severe, especially if the officer let him explain himself and his situation.
Besides, I don't recall him asking us to feel sorry for him anyway. There's no need to be hateful. He wasn't intentionally breaking the law and he didn't hurt anyone. This will be a valuable lesson to him and it can teach many other people to be careful as well.

Sorry JohnBoy, I'm not buying it. Someone who drinks and drives puts my family and yours at risk. Everyone does make mistakes, but Joker didn't seem remorseful. He sounded like he was picked on by the cop who was doing his job. He has to sell his truck. Big deal, he could have killed someone! The DUI laws are pretty consistent across the U.S., and if you are legally drunk (in excess of 0.08 bac), you are in no condition to drive safely. I have driven under the influence and have been lucky by not injuring anyone. I have learned from life's experiences. My problem with Joker is that he doesn't seem to get it that he is not the victim here, but he is the problem. I have no sympathy for those who endanger innocents. Especially those who don't own up to their responsibilities. Maybe Joker will get it in the future, maybe he won't.

I suppose you both have valid points. I was not trying to justify his actions.
After reading everything through again I get the feeling that he wasn't being completely truthful with us about the amount of alcohol he actually had. I guess that's what I get for giving him the benefit of the doubt...
Then again, you're correct, I am 18, so maybe I shouldn't be commenting on this issue in the first place.

You downplay everything and turn it from a supposed "2 beers" now to only 1 and then compare it to driving down the street to get mail?! Then you want us to feel bad for a drunk driver's "dreams" because he broke the law and was caught? Then proceed to tell us that we are ignorant and heavily biased if we don't "know where your're coming from?"
Yeah, I know where you are coming from.... MARS.

I think BestNTx said it best, what comes around goes around. Have a good life
I know around here that cops have taken DUI's a little out of hand. I mean Im all for getting the actual drunk drivers off the road and all(especially the older deadbeat repeat offenders). But I hardly think the guy coming driving home after dinner and two beers with the wife deserves jail time and several thousand dollar fines. I also have a feeling there are some hypocrits in this thread if everyone flaming this guy for "drunk" driving has never driven after a couple beers. One of my pet peeves is hypocrisy though. This brings to mind one of several stories, a particular cop(who had given out several controversial DUI charges actually was caught passed out at a traffic light drunk. Now he did receive a DUI. Its somewhat ironic and actually shows the hypocrisy. So all you older guys, dont act so pious to think that you have never or will never be above getting a DUI. Me thinks that in the 70s and 80s when DUI laws werent so strict, many of you would have indeed received DUI's when you were younger.
Now personally I might have a couple beers over the course of the entire night along with food because Im not a big drinker.

Conducting background checks on pilots for driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions--has been in effect since 1987. Pilots are subject to a $250 000 fine, imprisonment for up to five years, or both for failing to report a DWI conviction to the FAA. In addition, Federal Aviation Regulation 61.15 states that two or more alcohol- and/or drug-related motor vehicle convictions within a three-year period are grounds for the FAA to suspend or revoke a pilot's license. The regulation implies that pilots who have DWI convictions may be unfit to fly, thereby posing a threat to aviation safety.
Number of DWI convictions. Concerning flying performance over the seven-year period studied (1986-1992), 97.55% of airline pilots had neither flying accidents nor DWI convictions, an impressive majority. However, a total of 1372 pilots had DWI convictions, 1.96% of the airline pilot population. The percentages of major and nonmajor airline pilots with DWI convictions are 1.58% (753/47758), and 3.35% (619/18456), respectively. The vast majority (93.4%) of these DWI violators were first-time offenders. Table 2 compares the number of pilot-error accidents for pilots with no DWI, one DWI, and two or more DWI convictions.
