I used to know a man whose family were German aristocracy prior to World War Two. They owned a number of large industries and estates. I asked him how many German people were true *****, and the answer he gave has stuck with me and guided my attitude toward fanaticism ever since.
"Very few people were true *****" he said, "but, many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the ***** were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."
We are told again and again by "experts" and "talking heads" that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace.
Although this unquantified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is, that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars world wide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard quantifiable fact is, that the "peaceful majority" is the "silent majority" and it is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The Average Japanese individual prior to World War 2 was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of Killing that included the systematic killing of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were "peace loving".
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points. Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by the fanatics. Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, [Serbs], Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others, have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
Lastly, I wish to add: At the risk of offending someone, I sincerely think that anyone who rejects this as just another political rant, or doubts the seriousness of this issue or just deletes it is part of the problem. Let’s quit laughing at and forwarding the jokes and cartoons which denigrate and ridicule our leaders in this war against terror. They are trying to protect the interests and well being of the US and its citizens.

Excellent post and it is the absolute truth. That can be said for America itself and the reason it’s in the state it is which is becoming more socialist every day. It’s not because that’s what the majority of Americans want but rather what a small minority of people in America want. However, the vast majority of Americans are to busy working and trying to make a living…
It’s no longer majority rule in this country or this world but rather small minority groups of uneducated nutcase wackos…
If you really want to end wars and or the vast majority of terriosm you do it the old fashion way that has been proven time and time again to work…
The old fashion way is not worrying about how many innocent people die in mass carpet bombings or dropping nukes in key locations to wipe out thousands or hundreds of thousands of people at a time. Those old processes get results and end things quickly.
Quite frankly the thousands or hundreds of thousand who die that some may consider innocent are not really so innocent to begin with because they never stood up to stop what their countries were doing, even if it was a few nutcase wackos that started it, like Japan or Germany. All those who died in those wars, from those countries had to because they stood by and did nothing which made them just as dangerous as those few nutcase wackos who started the conflicts.
Same goes for Iraq and Iran and the other nutcase countries in the Middle East that support terrorism. Drop about 20 nukes over there and you’ll stop terrorism for a very long time…
The problem with the world today is not America or President Bush but rather the vast majority of silent people to chicken chit to do anything and sitting on the curb with their finger up their @ss waiting on others to do for them and then complaining about how the others are not doing the right thing…

The term fanatic can swing both ways...
Be careful- if it happened in Germany, Japan, China, etc.. It can happen here too...
American has long been a live and let live society (as long as you don't cross me, or hurt my friends). According to the MBTI, we were very much INFP.
But, now- we're looking for fights and we seem to have lost focus of what we are doing. How do we wage a war on terror? I asked that on 9/11/2001.
Personally, I wish a country had attacked us on 9/11 because we could be sure we were kicking the right *****. We coudl attack their infrastructure, reduce their ability to wage war, and destroy them... But, when you're hit by terrorists, how do you strike back at those who are so blended into your society, and among innocents, that you can't get them, without hurting/killing innocents (who probably don't know anything about their neighbor)? When do you know if you have gone far enough? How far is too far?
Clearly, something had to be done, someone had to pay for 9/11, but- are we sure we got the right people? Fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 terrorists were Saudi Arabian citizens, yet- we attacked Afghanistan... While I shed no tears over what we;ve done to cripple Al Quida, or the removal of Saddam Hussein, the question still remains- how effective has the four years of war been?
I'm all about defending America. I'd have personally shot all 19 of those terrorists, if it meant saving the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans. I just want to be sure we're going after the right people, for the right reasons- not just because it's convenient.
Our government has not made a good case to the American people (Aside from the fanatics), and that's why there is so much discontent in America. People are tired of being lied to.
Maybe all Muslims aren't peace-loving. But, I'm sure the smart bombs we've dropped on Muslim cities haven't gone a long way to show America as upholding Christian ideals either.

I agree the silent majority of muslims is the problem. Most "civilized" nations contain their extremists and try to keep them out of power. The muslims could stop this but they choose not to, unfortunately they are not content with just killing themselves. The people of Iraq can't (and don't want to) police themselves. Our military is not going to change that. If we are there another 50 years it is not going to change.
I do support the military mission, but I think we should have claimed victory after we got saddam and left after that. Whats happening now would require constant occupation and not improve.
I think the case in Germany was different. Hitler didn't start out as a nutcase. At the time he restored the German economy and was a "hero". By the time everyone figured out he was crazy, he had way to much power to be brought down internaly.

The threat of violence is a *****.
In the Bataan Death March, There were only 4-5 guards for every 300 men, yet with that kind of ratio, they marched 75,000 men to prison camps.
Many on the outside would say, "With odds of 75-1, they should have resisted". That's easy to say today, not so easy when you have a gun pointed at you. This is probably why the silent majority in those regions, remains silent. Not saying I agree, I'm just saying- I understand.
Someone would have to rise among the silent, rally the troops (during which time he, she or they would be extremely vulnerable to personal attack), and then take action. That's a big psychological hurdle to overcome.

Senator Joe Biden said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that there were only 3 ways to secure a situation like Iraq.
1.) "Fully occupy and control the country. (No one wants to see us do that)
2.) See the return of a new Dictator. (Which he called sad irony).
3.) Instituate a Federal System where the people had control (free elections, representation, etc..)"
The third one being the most appealing option, but implementing it on a group of people who are more interested in killing each other (and whomever else gets in the way, and who has not asked for our help) is gonna be a real b****.
I'm not saying we should leave, but- I am saying that we're not gonna fix that situation over there quickly. Hell, it took 100 years (1865 - 1965), hangings, burning, bombs, segregation, desegregation, the Civil Rights Movement of 1964, EEO, AA, and other programs, just to get minorities in this country equali footing from promises made in 1865, and there is still not full-equality in this country, although things are getting better in some ways.
So, we're not going to build an America-like society in Iraq in 3 years, when it tok us 33 times longer to get it almost right in America. So, we need o either be prepared to be in Iraq for the next 97 years- or, leave now, and let whatever happens happen. Let them resolve their own issues about whom and how they are to be governed.
